wanna darken my headlights/tails nightshade or tint?

Dont really got the time to open up the housings on both, so what has higher light output and durability? I want to lower my 5k light output a little, but not too dark. Looking for something cheap and easy. Do any .org-ers kno where to get precut headlight tint covers as well?

Thanks

Do it the right way or don't do it at all. Baking open headlights/tail lights doesn't take that long.

Tinted headlights are gonna look cheesy anyway, just tint your tails for now. I prefer tint but Nightshade can look just as good.

I'm about to nightshade my tail lights every time I've asked about nightshade I've heard nothing but good reviews about it so I'm not too worried. Plus it's easy and cheap

niteshade is good but it all depends on the applier (the person spraying it on)

i used nightshade on my tails, it it quick and easy but REALLY depends on the "applier" so ill give you my .02 because i did it right once and wrong once lol....i did it right when i actually took the lights out, did it in light layers, and it came out right..(even and good light penetration)

i did it WRONG on my outter tails when i was in a rush, i didnt take them out to lay them flat, sprayed it all at one time pretty much and got runs. you can take brake cleaner or something to take it off and redo it if you want but....im too lazy. so when you do it,
- take out the lights, lay on flat surface....(no runs)
-do it in light layers and do both lights at the same time so you do them evenly
imo, you might wanna tape off the reverse light, i didnt and dont get to see much when im in reverse lol so you might wanna tape them off so you can actually USE your reverse lights
-let dry before reapplying and putting the lights back so you dont get finger prints lol

Your local establishment of the executive branch may have issues with headlight tinting.

He started it Nobodys car is perfect. Mine still has plenty of work to be done.

I still vote for you baking them open and painting them. You'll be happier in the end that way. Too many people go the tint route and it's beyond played out.

so you want to be one of those morons who makes their car harder to see by following a ridiculous fad that originated with Pontiac Grand Ams in trailer parks in 1998... neat.

well I want to do my headlights more then anything. Don't care about Tails. And I hate Grand ams prob one of the gayest cars Pontiac ever had.

I just did an Ebay search and found these. They don't look too bad.

i prefer tint. i bought tint off ebay easy to apply. you could go to a shop and have it professionally done too. if you use night shade you can choose how dark you want it to be. be sure to use a clear coat also.

niteshade is awesome as long as u properly clean ur lenses. go easy just enough paint to smooth over. then recoat if you want darker. i did 2 coats of nite then a coat of clear then redid 2 more coats of niteshade and 2 coats of clear looks sick and are really bright with the brake lights. def lose some daytime brightness of the tails though. id say the 4 light coats equalled mayb down to 35% which works perfectly cuz thats where my windows are tinted to lol =D

and tinted headlights is just no. imo it looks dumb and kills light output. but im runnin 30,000k BLUE HIDS so i dont need anything killing my light output since its already low lol

for headlights 2% black mixed with 98% clearcoat.
for taillights 10% black mixed with 90% clearcoat.

coat to your liking.

IMO the stock tails are great, smoking/tinting just looks off to me esp on lighter colored cars. I used Nightshade on both my 240 coupes and it comes out nice you just have to prep and take your time otherwise don't even bother.

did mine with niteshade... id recommend it, tint can be tough to work with, this is cheaper and easier. i found it at advance auto parts.

AfterThoughts does sell Nite Shades, and it's cheaper than Jegs! $10.35 / can

http://www.afterthoughtsauto.com/vhtnigpain.html

I'm pretty sure that's where I got mine the last time.

Only prob with nite shades is if you do it too dark, like I did, your light output is completely gone and its irreversible. I recommend you only do it if you have an extra pair of headlights, like I happened to have. Tint sucks and will bubble and come off if not done correctly and most of the time you will not do it correctly unless your a professional. Go with the nite shades just do a couple light coats then let it dry test it out and see from there if more coats are needed that way you won't get it too dark too fast. I kept thinking mine was too light and kept adding a couple more coats and well ah effed it up

Honestly, that looks sh*tty.
The tails have no gloss, just a flat dull appearence. You should have wetsanded and buffed, and they would have came out shiney as glass.
I used to nightshades and buff mine back in the day but the tint would wear off eventually. I finally got wise and had them tinted profesionally with tinted clear.

tbh i can't see the point in light tints if you can't make out any color

then the car is just a slab of whatever the body color is with a black spot. i like the red, maybe with some very gentle shadowing but that's all. it sets off the tails and makes the car look like, you know, a car.

I always see guys on Craigslist that "black-house" or actually paint and clear the lenses for about $50. Most of them are body shops, I'm about to get mine done. I would try the night shades and do it myself but for that price I'll just leave it to the professionals

VHT night shades is great. Ive done a few cars including my own. They come out awesome. The trick is to take your time clean the surface well and spray it on in very light coats especially the first coat. I then spray them tell there a little darker. Then i let them sit overnight and the next day buff the tail lights to the darkness I want. If there light I do it by hand if dark i use my buffer with a wool pad on 1000 rpm. Mine look like glass. I have never used clear and had no fading issues. Although VHT has never worked well on headlights for me.

Here are a few examples of cars ive done with VHT.
