Can a 1999 Maxima tow 2000lbs on a trailer?

It all depends on how the weight is loaded on the trailer. Obviously you dont want it loaded towards the tongue, as it'll put more of the weight on the rear suspension of the car. Try to load it evenly across the wheels of the trailer.

Ahahah, neither would I but I'm not the one doing it. In any case Im buying the maxima for cheap and giving it to my brother for the winter as hes moving to calgary. When he comes back I'm taking out the lsd transmission (might rebuild) and the black leather interior to swap with my tan interior (ripped up )
So its not bad If she can't hall the stuff then its just going to peacefully sleep till summer time.

i've towed with my maxima.. it was a single axle enclosed trailer from uhaul. It pulled it with no problem. Not sure if it was 2000lbs wort of stuff.. The heaviest stuff was over the axle in the trailer. My car had the uhaul hitch. Btw this was with a koni/eibach suspension.

You're probably pushing it at 2000 lbs, make sure that weight is absolutelty distributed appropriately. I've only towed around 1000 lbs with a Maxima, had no problem but that's half what you're talking. Make sure he doesn't tow with the overdrive on (assuming the car is auto).

I don't know if it's a question of can it handle it? Because VQ power is like no otha. However it's how long can the tranny, suspension, brakes, and whatnot handle it. I would do it if I needed to, but not long, or far...And I wouldn't make it a habit to tow something as heavy as that.
(Also, +1 to weighting it as evenly as possible...)

i did it from socal to the bay area. No i'll effects. Hell my max towed better, and brake'd better than my d22 frontier which is rated the same as the max.

Like I said it's doable, but Maximas were clearly NOT designed for towing, so wouldn't do too much of it.
Heck, my dad took 4 people in a 91 Nissan Stanza, towing the cadillac of pop-up campers, through the Appalacian mountains, and it worked like a champ. But if you are planning on doing a dec. amount of towing, get a vehicle built for it.

on you tube the other day i saw a tiny little car pulling a full sized camper uphill. it was screaming and smoking but it made it to the top. then rolled all the way back down. i dont think you will have a problem.

The only thing Maxima's should haul....is ***.
Seriously though, Ptatohed uses his 96 Maxima to tow lots of stuff all the time. Not sure about 2000 lbs, but definitely a 1000lbs easy I'd say. Give Ptatohed a PM, he knows a lot about this stuff.

You've probably towed whatever you were towin' by now, but I thought I'd throw this out there:
I towed a (not the smallest sized) U-haul trailer loaded floor to ceiling from Boston to Seattle with my '96 5spd. Trailer loaded was between 2500 and 3000 lbs.
Only thing I had to fix when I was done was the brakes!
