climate control swap

i have the standard 97 auto climate control module, and i was to swap it out for a 99 one, reason is because i think it looks better, it has all the buttons and features like the one i have except it has the amb button which i don't no what it does, other then that they are identical except the buttons are re-arranged different. any how is this possible to do, or is it alot more work to handle.

im not 100% but i believe they swap. the amb button tells you ambient temp outside the car. you could mod some of the older CC to add amb too lol

it's not a direct swap. the plugs don't match up and there's a whole leap of sensors you'll need to get. it's gonna be money!

i thought i could do that with my 94 altima, epic fail. and i looked it up for our ae's and another fail!

the amb button must mean the 99s have an outside temp sensor, i guess you would have to get the climate control harness and sensor to use the feature

The pieces you need to add that I can quickly thing of are: You need to change out the resistor for the blower motor with the transistorized one. You have to add a sunlight sensor on the top of the dash by the defroster vent, you need to add the inside air temperature sensor and hook it up to a vacuum source and add the outside ambient temperature sensor behind the grille by the horn.

thanks for the advice, but really i don't need all of that i just want the basics like auto, econ temperature change up and down, defroster for the front and back, and the mode change that's it, just like the 97, i just want to do it for looks i like the 99's better than the 97 ones.

This is incorrect. If you shine a flashlight into the 97 ECC, the AMB is there. All he needs is a button for the AMB function.

I believe you misunderstood the question. He already has an ECC, just not the more modern 98-99 version.

Yeah, had a brain fart. I missed the detail that the car all ready had auto climate control. But I don't understand your reference to ECC.

ECC = Electronic Climate Control. Same thing as ACC (auto climate control)

I call it ECC because I think that's how the FSM calls it.

yes, but adding the amb button and making it fully functional like OEM is the tricky part. Getting just the right spring, mounting it...I looked at this option, and it seemed like a nightmare. In my 98, I just bought a 99 ECC and swapped.

I'm not 1000% sure. I'd a)compare the wiring in the 97 FSM vs. the 99 FSM and b) take out your climate control and take a pic of the back. I can take a pic of my spare 99 ECC and we can compare if you wish...

You probably need to get the sensor that is behind the grill by the horns and you need to check if the wires for this function are in the harness. My 97 that has manual controls has a connector taped to the harness behind the strut that the horns mount on, so maybe the wiring is there.

AMB button came in '99 Maximas and '98-99 I30s. You can ONLY add the AMB button to the '98 Maxima ACC units as the function is there already it just lacks the button. You can either find the button (new is discontinued, however) with the plastic attachment mount in the back to hold it into the unit or as a few members have done, drill a hole where the button would be, buy a piece of eraser pen, run it through the hole and glue the other end down to the board. There are posts about this just search.
