Higher output Alternator, options?

Ok, I am tired of the autozone duralast alternator, I am on my 4th one and keeps putting out low voltage/amp (bat light turning on and misfire at WOT). So I have been looking on ebay and there is about 3 different sellers within 160-200 bucks for 160 to 240amp. Has anyone done research on this or have tried out any of these ebay high amp alternators? Looking to spend less than 250-300.

Bought my 200amp from Mean Green for around 300.00
http://www.mean-green.com/
It wasnt listed on their products page, but I called and they said they had them. The pulley on it was a tad bit smaller then OEM but I didnt have any belt sizing issues, the tensioner took care of it.
Ive had my unit for 3yrs easily.

Cool! Exactly what I was looking for, actual testimonials. Have you ever verified if its actually making 200rpm max?

Are you running a big stereo system? A high output alternator is a big waste of money if you don't absolutely need the extra amperage.

Well if its not too much trouble that would be great man. I just want something that is reliable (which you already proved, for 3 years), now just want to know if it actually puts out the advertized output.
I got a reply from MeanGreen, told me they have a direct fit for $399.

I only have a 300-500watt amp with a 10", but I dont really push it at all, just for background bass notes, not to vibrate my head off my shoulders lol.

I do have a few electrical devices such as two scavenge pumps that each pulls 7AMP, EU, JS, SupraStick, Wideband (I assume it takes up a good amount of current to heat up the sensor). That with a cheap Duralast autozone alternator is not resulting very well.

I don't think you need a high output alternator. You need a good quality rebuilt oem type...but join the group, we all need that. I'm at 150k on the original calsonic to show how well a good alternator can work. As you know the parts store rebuilds are garbage and that is much more your problem than your current draw. Where do you live? I know of a shop in Dallas that makes good alternators/starters. http://www.alterstart.biz/ Their website doesn't have all the products they make, you can give them a call to ask about a maxima alternator. This is the shop that my company used for high performance rebuilds when I lived in Dallas. They also have better quality, IMHO, oem type alternators than the parts stores too.

That may be the problem, that its providing less than stock required output. I am in miami, the other issue is, finding a real good rebuild.
