Are you trying to go from non-bose to bose by switching the HU?? If so, that will not work as the entire harness would need to be changed. If yours was clarion, you have to stick to clarion or go aftermarket..

maybe the different plugs are because one has premium sound and the other one doesn't? Did you buy it new or used?

Go to http://imageshack.us and upload the photo.

The Bose HU from any 4th gen should swap into any other without any modification, as far as I know. In '97 they changed the faceplate and some little things inside the HU but from the back end there should be no difference.

The '97+ HU looks like this:

The '95-96 unit looks like this:

(Correct me if I'm wrong on that one...I've got a '97 unit)

Unless I'm mistake, you should be able to use either of these in any 4th-gen with no adapters or modification.

If your head unit looks like neither of these, It Is Wrong and you should exchange it for one that is Right.

hey guys a little off topic but just bought my 99 maxima se and the bose hu doesnt seem to play cd-r disks. Are these HU not able to play them ? cause if that is so the bose HU will be getting swapped out pretty quick. Any suggestions on a aftermarket HU that doesnt take away from the factory look?

i burn my own cd-audio and it is working with my 98 bose unit, make sure cd is clean, not too scratchy...if this doesn't work there are special CDs to clean laser in your unit. should work then

My '97 can play CD-Rs. What are you burning them on? At what speed?

What media, though? No-name CD-Rs or something fancy?

I don't know if I believe them, but some claim that major brands make better media, and that cheap discs can result in poor quality/readability issues.

If you've got some fancy-schmancy discs sitting around, try burning it onto a Sony or a Memorex or whatever - it may help work around your problem. FWIW, I can play no-name discs just fine in my car, but your laser may be drifting out of adjustment, and if you don't feel like fixing it perhaps a better recording medium could do the trick.

Again, this is all just stuff I've heard. I'm not sure how I feel about those claims.
