How good are J30 projectors? I have a pair of 95 J30 headlights with dual projectors and wondering how good they would be for project or maybe sell if any real interest out there and right offer. And yes i know this aint the classifieds.
Is output decent?

There not the greatest, but will work obviously.
There are actually a couple of members who have used them but I dont recall if they ever posted pics of their cutoffs.
I do know they claimed that the cutoffs werent too great though.
Personally I wouldnt waste the time on them, but if you already have them its a cheaper setup for you.

Here's was my cutoff BTW..

-35W 6000K HID kit with 3" ZKW-R clear lenses spaced 6mm (I'm now running a 55W kit, color isn't exactly the same but they're brighter).

On another side note, you might want to cut off the high beam projector and use just the low beams.


I had to cut almost the entire rear of my housing to fit both, and that was with them seperate and trimmed. Together is going to be a serious *****..

 

Those dont even look aimed properly. From the looks of them at least one of the projectors is facing straight out with no type of angle at all.
I know with my dual setup, which uses a much smaller 2nd projector spacing was tight as well. I was able to angle and aim them but with two larger ones I dont see how it would be possible.

 

They're not aimed at all lol. I had just finished cutting up the housing and wanted an idea on how they'd look in there. There's plenty of room to adjust both since like I said almost the entire back of the housing is gone plus they're seperated and trimmed.

 

I see these in the junkyard all the time and always thought about grabbing a pair but never did.

 

Do it man, sell me the shrouds lol.

But seriously though these are decent projectors, way better than a stock set-up with HIDs and they're extremely affordable. Put a little money into modifying them and you got yourself a nice little retro.

I actually had to trim my entire back portion of the housing off.


I then made a mounting plate for them and basicly rebuilt the backs of the housings to accomadate them.
When I built up the back end I angled it to help with the positioning of the projectors.
This little diagram shows how I mounted them and what they looked from the top...

This is the housings with the mounting plates attached. You can see how close the mounting holes are, not to mention once the projectors were mounted how close they actually sat next to each other.

Using the smaller projector still allowed me some room still for further adjusting of the projectors as needed for aiming.
Space is really tight using two projectors in the OEM styled housings and is a lot of work to get them to fit and be aimed properly. Ive had many ask me to build them a similiar retro but Ive turned them down. I simply do not want to invest that much time into someone elses setup.

Yup already seperated and trimmed, believe me theres plenty of room for adjustment. I had to cut that entire portion you cut and then some on the corners. It's tight but they'll fit when aimed. Good job mounting them though, I'm just going to JB Weld mine in there and call it a day.

I've had people ask me to make them retros as well now and I'm just not up for it lol Maybe something as simple as a MH1 retro wouldn't be so bad but I'll pass for now.

OP, if you do decide to retro them into your headlights definitely sell me those shrouds.

If anyone is gonna put them into R34's they're definitely gonna have to be seperated and trimmed. They'll probably have to be seperated and possibly trimmed if someone wants to put both or even just the lows into stock headlights.

 

There is a how to guide on putting Hella Audi projectors into a stock housing, i'm guessing those would be better than Nissan housings...

Right I'm saying you put the Hella Projectors that Audi uses into the Nissan housing that's already on your car.

 

Many have already done that, nothing new there.
Many are actually using the Bixenon projectors when doing a single projector retrofit.
