Along with the random no start issue.........I have a vibration from the front end that needs to be addressed.

It seems that on the highway at about 80mph I get vibration in the car and steering wheel. I does it at other times as well, but I know for sure at 80 mph on the highway. What is a list of items to check. I realize that wheel balance is key, I think that is good, but I will check it anyway again.

What other front end parts could be suspect? The car has 142,000 miles. I have been dealing with this problem for a while now, but I have just lived with it....now I want to tackle the issue. I did have the balance checked by two different shops and they both said it was fine. In general the vibration could be there, at least in small part at all speeds.

check suspension components, ie., sway bar end links, lca's, struts, etc. put it on a lift and see if there's any play in the wheels if turned side to side. in otherwards, do an alignment check and have camber looked at. that could definitley cause that problem.

 

It cud just be axles too bro!

 

I have had vibration in my 95 front end at highway speeds since I got it 8 years ago. I replaced axles, wheel bearings and put on a different set of wheels I had. Putting the wheels on helped, but the vibration is still there. I'm starting now to collect parts for a full front end rebuild including lower arms, ball joints, bushings, tie rod ends, hubs, bearings, axles, struts, strut bearings and rotors. If that doesn't fix it I don't know what else to do.
It seems that for vibration issues, replacing all of the rotating members would help. (hubs, axles, bearings, rotors) We'll see. When I get it done, I'll let you all know how it works out.

 

I had that same issue... check out everything pertaining to the suspension... after a year of dealing with the problem I happen to let a friend drive my car and he told me that I had a bad wheel bearing... I told him I had put new bearing on both sides. He told me not only is the bearing bad but your hub assembly might be damage so I went to the junk yard and brought the whole spindle and replace it with mind and sure enough the vibration was gone. I never felt my car drive as good as it does now. hope it helps

 

Its might not be your balance, but rather ply seperation or belt shift in the tire. A balancer wont detect this, it needs to be run a road force machine. Try rotating your tires and see if it changes.

 

Our cars are very sensitive to the type and pattern of the tire tread too. But, yours sounds like it might be an axle, especially if the vibration is there under acceleration but lessens when you left off of the gas. I'll go 80 or 85 but I just don't know what will happen if I go 88.

 

can you explain this a little more in depth please? are directional tires bad or a-symetrical?


to the op; when you balance a tire you only balance the tires runout not the rim you may possibly have a bent rim.
