Noisy Tensioner Pully?

I had my alternator replaced yesterday and they said I needed to replace my idler/tensioner pully. When I started it up i did hear a sort of medium/high pitched metallic noise coming from that area, but it seemed to go away. Fearing that the pully would seize up, I replaced it today with a new one from autozone. Now it's even louder. I hate autozone, but they were the only store with the pully in stock. Does this sound like I bought a bad pully or is something else going on? I never noticed the sound before they replaced my alt, but I am not 100% sure. It doesn't sound like a belt squeal to me, but I need to change the belts soon anyway. I may replace the belts and see if that does it. Any advice would be be appreciated.

Take idler pulley back and get another one - preferably from Advance or NAPA.

Thanks for your replies. I haven't replaced or adjusted anything yet. The noise isn't nearly as bad now as it was immmediately after replacing the pully. It seems to come and go. Today I didn't even hear it at all. It was also substantially warmer in KY today than it has been since I replaced it. Not sure if that could or should be a factor. I guess I'll give it a little more time.

2 things,

1. inspect that all the neccessary parts are currently there.. I was missing one once made some awful noises

2. check that belts are to spec, you should only be able to get about an 1/2 inch of movement in the belts when you tug on them decently hard.

Replace the bearing with a better one. This bearing is ABEC 3. Don't know about the quality of the replacement part components.
