Squealing noise after idling for 5-6 minutes ..............
I noticed that when I am warming up my max I hear a squealing sound (very high pitch) like metal grinding or something after the car has been idling for around 5 or 6 minutes. The sound keeps coming but disappears when I rev the engine. It returns again when the I let off the gas and car is idling again. Also the temp gauge shows temp rises a little (although still in normal range) when idling and then drops when I start driving. The squealing sound can also be heard when I stop at a traffic light and then disappears when I start driving again. I was thinking it maybe a pulley going bad or something like that. Any ideas?? If it is a pulley can I jus take it off and lubricate it and put it back on or will I need a new one?? Arrite lemme kno wut u guys think. Thanx

i had a high pitch whistle noise coming from the engine of my 92 diamante three years ago. it happened only at idle, after it sat for a few mins at idle that is. if the gas was pressed, it would go away. i tried everything to figure it out, and found out that the steering fluid was low and when it was filled, the noise completely disappeared.

this is somewhat off-topic but you shouldn't let the car idle for 5-6 minutes. it shouldn't be no more than 1 minute. thats enough time for the car to build oil pressure to get things flowing. when you drive rev slowly and try not to rev past xxxx rpm (i dont rev past 2000). the engine warms up quicker and is less harmful to itself.
