Redded Out the Tails

So, I decided that I was sick of seeing my amber tail lights every morning when I walk to my car. I changed that today. Heres some Pics.

Process:
Clean Lights
Wet Sand with 1000 Grit Paper
Clean with Rubbing Alcohol
Apply Testors Candy Apple Translucent Red Paint (light layers, multiple layers)
Apply Clear Coat
Let Cure for a Day or so, then Buff/Polish

Saw your facebook picture!

You copied my tails

Except my reverse isn't red-ed out, and I didn't actually paint my tails, and it was... photoshopped

2000 grit should be high enough to buff with a buffer.

Looks close to a match. Good work on the creativity. I guess it's preference, but am I the only one that likes to have the full brightness of reverse and a nice, non-subtle, amber blinker? I really hate trying to see through paint to figure out if a signal is blinking to change lanes on a foggy night. Novelty can take a back seat.

Its translucent paint. The light shines right through.

You wanna explain the difference between "Real Paint" and "Fake Paint"?

If it says paint on it, and its in a spray paint can, and its colored, Hell, its paint....

Real paint? No one listen to this guy he obviously doesn't know what the hell he's talking about.

One, is there a such thing as "fake" paint? Two, did you know that David L used that same paint to make the tails known as David L's? Three, did you know I painted my tails with the same stuff and I've never gotten any negative comments about them and they look great?

Please go elsewhere with your bull**** noobish comments.

Hey OP, how'd your rims come out?

Havent sanded them yet, doing it tomorrow. My goal for tomorrow is to paint my front rims, black out my turn signals, and sand/buff my tails.

I agree with the other posters - get that gloss back. Are there any laws against not having clear reverse lights? I think that would make backing up dicey - especially with tinted windows...

I de-ambered my tails on another vehicle - looked great at first, but eventually it will dull and wear off. I tried the red film this time around - looks great and less work.

i used spray tint too back in the day and from the sun and time, they did fade so i scraped the stuff off. but they did last a few years lookin fresh

Yea, backing up at night does suck with my tint. As for the laws, I dont think there are b/c ive seen RSX's and EVO X's with redded out lights. I dont think its a big deal, just gotta be careful.
