Any safc users on 4th gens?

Anyone here tune it themselves or know how much power they have squeezed out of an afc? I found one for a good price (safc1), looking to lean it out and make some power and get some gas mileage out of it also.
Any other mods that are commonly done with the afc?

Common bolt ons like headers, 00vi, and so on are often optimized by using an SAFC. Many have seen 15-20whp gains from tuning especially if you combine with a JWT ECU. You won't gain any gas mileage by leaning out an SAFC because the stock ECU will override your changes if they are made at less than 40% throttle.

Really? So if I set the lo throttle to 40% or lower it won't make any changes at all? Well that sucks, I do like 15% throttle when driving to/from work.
I plan on getting a Y pipe and finishing the intake that is on the car. Maybe 00vi later down the line, but I found an safc1 for $55 so I may jump on it. I'm not reallying looking to spend $595 on the jwt ecu as I don't see it being worth it at all.

JWT ECU can provide gains w/ a stock maxima, and that whole lean out thing below %40 will go away if you tell JWT to make it go away.

Still, I'm not looking to make it a racecar. Just looking for a little more power.

Piggyback unit siting out on your dash/console/cluster vs. plug and play unit that hides underneath your center console....

It seems you've made up your mind here, so good luck to ya.

An SAFC alone wont do much. Get and adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Raise the pressure and take the fuel back out with the SAFC, (lower MAF voltage). This will fool the ECU into adding timing. Dyno time is expensive so it really doesnt make it worth while. You can get a wide band O2 and some cheap data logging software to do it on your own. Still, a used JWT ecu is $400 or so. Its instant and can be sold for no loss, unlike dyno time which is money down the drain.

My Techonosquare ECU lets me burnout on 20" rims now, before I could not (with stock ECU) its crazy.

Even though it is NA, a wideband is always a good accessory for SAFC users. Read up on initial settings ect. Be sure to solder the connections, especially maf and tps.

How much is the techonosquare? I looked and the site doesn't show up right on my browser. I also emailed them and have no response.

I've emailed JWT and been searching and everyone says oh my car feels good. But that is it, no dyno, no time slips, no details about "how" it feels better. Nothing.

So, I have a 00VI, header back exhaust , AFC neo and my AFC opens my 00VI as well leaning out my air fuel ratio because I ran rich when I did the 00VI. The gains were nice but definitely better when I got my air fuel ratio at 12.5-13.5 I still want a JWT so I'll have a raised rev limiter so I can take full advantage of my moods. But if i did get a JWT I would still keep my AFC to tune and operate my 00VI so you need more mods. ether way you go an AFC by it self is not going to do much but, for me it works awesome. Just my two cents hope this helps you on your decision

How does the afc work with the intake manifold, do you have a Vafc?

He has AFC Neo according to his post, which controls the 00VI like a VAFC does.

http://forums.maxima.org/dyno-slips-...6-se-5spd.html

Then go find you some other maxima dyno slips and look @ the TQ curve BEFORE 3K.

//edit here's mine, http://forums.maxima.org/7854364-post86.html

basic point is, flat tq lines are awesome. Peak Dyno #'s arent everything.

Yeah because the tq below 3k is useful in racing situations.

Is it wrong to let people believe the S/C noise is something wrong with the engine. On my first car I had a 2.5l v6 with a bad alternator and it sounded like a blower. lol I had a saleen mustang try to race me thinking the same. Can't afford bling yet so sleeper to the max!

Thanks! I definitely recommend going with the emanage ultimate! I have one and love it.
I've seen something similar to that before, its great for the sleeper look but its useless for safely monitoring while your driving. For that reason I will be moving my afr gauge from the cigarette lighter hole in the shifter trim to the top of the steering column.

ok so, i was also considering a safc/vafc (i thought that the vafc was only for hondas)
but i have minor mods and a 99. so to benefit form this particular mod i have gathered that you; A: need a 00VI or B: need a jwt. correct?
so for bolt ons like; headers, y-pipe, catback, intake. this is a wast of money.
im just trying to cover all the bases so i can have an accurate and precise way of modding a max on a budget which is what i think the op is really trying to achieve. a fun sporty but practical 4DSC

You could come out ahead $$$-wise w/ a SAFC (which is what you need since you have no VI), but not by much.

But it's more practical to just own a PnP ecu... Crap you have a 99.... Things could get hairy here...

There is power to be gained via tuning though, so tuning is not a waste of time.

NATs, and JWT not supporting 99's .

I plan on doing a 96 ECU swap soon though, then I can haz JWTs

IIRC, TS has made a few 97 ecus, still does 95/96s.

JWT only does 95/96s.

stick to the safc or vafc, def will allow you to tune for the future, and the few people i know w jwt ecus also have a safc vafc to fine tune anyways. i hear good things about the advanced timing with the jwt, but at 600 bucks, i chose to go with a EU..

+1 on the torque below 3000 rpms lol

What is NAT?
I would love to do a TS ecu or something for my car, but I haven't seen any dynos or anything. All I hear is that it's a good mod. Well great, but at $600 I need more.
SAFC can do a lot for me for the time being.
Only thing is from my understanding is you can't adjust anything under 40% throttle so it's not going to help my gas mileage at cruise.

You guys mostly "street tuning" or dyno tuning your S/VAFCs?

I am considering having mine eventually dyno tuned after my 3.5 swap is finished this week but in the mean time, try and get the AFR to the mid 13's without a dyno, I have a UEGO.

NATS= NISSAN ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM its the immobilizer and makes it very tricky to tune a 98/99
