Mystery Misfire

I have been chasing a misfire on the Max for some time now. I finally followed the thread on testing the coils and found the bad one. Thing is the mifire is more noticable at idle than under a load. I was gettin over 400miles per tank with the misfire and once i changed the bad coil that went down drastically I am getting like 280Miles per tank. So i want to know if i stick with the bad coil what further damage can be done. I have a 1998 SE w/ 221,000

I had a misfire due to a bad injector a while back, but mileage was significantly improved after I fixed the problem. It doesn't make any sense that you get better mileage with the misfire. I would re-check all the coils and injectors (pull wires off one by one). I would assume you've checked plugs. Not sure what to say, but a properly functioning maxima should get around 400 miles/tank.

Your complaining about 280 Miles Per Gallon?? You should take you car into Nissan for examination, Its a scientific breakthrough.

Seriously though, you might be driving harder now that it runs better. Run the diag for a KS code, It will back timing off and kill perf and MPG.

I have checked the plugs. I ran around trying to narrow down the coil till I did. Everytime i pulled the codes it was 1320 and it said pending after that never pointed out which code. Not complaining about the gas mileage just wondering why I got better mileage with a malfunctuning coil. I will try the KS next and see what I come up with

Why do the wise guys roam these threads checking for grammar and things of that nature. We are all adults and knew what I meant.Corrections have been made to the original post.
