Electrical Issue

Okay so car was sitting for a few weeks in the garage and I went to turn it on and battery was completely dead. Got it charged up and put it back in the car. Car starts up fine. Now the issue is that the power windows, door locks, power seats, door entry lights, dash lights/shifter lights and rear tail lights don't work unless I step on the brakes, and also the heater/ac fans don't come on even if you put it on full blast. I haven't had a chance to check all the fuses but I got a feeling its a bigger problem. Hoping to get some insight if someone has had a similiar problem on where I can start. Thanks in Advance!

Sounds really odd, if you have checked all the fuses id move on the relays.

Check the fuses and the fusible links in the fuse box next to the battery. This includes the main 100 or 120 amp fusible link. One of them is probably blown.

I completely agree. If all the fuses are good, check the relays. Start with the three blue ones right next to the fuse panel by your left knee in the driver seat. When one of them was out my turn signals, windows, sunroof, and more wouldn't work. (easy and cheap troubleshooting: just switch the relays around and see if different things start/stop working. After a couple moves you should be able to figure out which relay it is and replace it.)

Alright thanks guys for the info/suggestions. I'm gonna try the relays and fuses and see what happens and get back to you if I need any help. Thanks again!

Bad ignition switch, try playing with the key and see if that helps. That is most likely cause. If that is not it then the ignition or assy relay that is turned on by the ignition switch is the problem.

I was looking at my FSM and can't find anything that is ONLY the windows and mirrors. The mirrors are on fuse # 7 (10 amp) which has nothing to do with the windows. The windows get their power through circuit breaker #2, not a fuse. The circuit breaker does get its power from fuse F (30 amp, under the hood by the battery) but fuse F also powers the interior lights, door locks and more.

Nopike mentioned the assy relay. I am not sure if he means the accessory relay or not. The accessory relay feeds power fuse 7 for the mirrors, but it also powers the cigar lighter, windshield wipers and a few other things.

Download a FSM from http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/maxima/ or from
http://www.aubreyandcharles.com/ServiceManuals/

The two sections you need the most right now are section IDX (index, sometimes HIDX) and EL (electrical). The block diagram of the electrical distribution is called Power Supply Routing and starts on page 6 of the EL section. Note: there are different versions of the manual, so what I see as page 6 may not be the same as what you download, but it will be close.

Alright so I checked all the fuses except for the big battery fuse (140amp I think) but all the fuses are okay. Checked the 3 blue relays by the fuse box by swaping them around and no luck. Nothing changed and still issues with all of the above. Anything else I should check??

OK so you checked everything but the most likely cause of your problem.

1) I bet your horn does not work. If your horn does not work that big 140 Amp fuse located in the fuse box next to the battery is almost certainly blown. If your horn works that fuse is OK and you can go to step 2,3,4.

My guess is you blew that fuse while installing the battery back into the vehicle.

2) Did You did check all the fuses in the fuse box next to the battery? If you did not check this fuse box you wll not find the cause.
3) Do your Headlights, Fog lights, Turn signals? work?
4) So you are saying the brake lights (stop) work when you step on the brake but the tailights do not work at all if you turn your headlights on?

Alright yea your right the horn deffinately doesn't work either lol. Only reason I didn't check that 140amp fuse is I couldn't figure out how to pull it out, but I'll try again and that should be the end of the issue. Thanks again to all!

I think I just dug myself into a bigger hole lol. I shined some light at the fuse and saw it was blown, but like I was saying before I couldn't get that fuse out so this time I tried to pull it out with pliers and now the fuse just fell apart so I just have the two metal prongs that once was the fuse lol....I really dont think changing a fuse should be this hard, is there something I'm doing wrong/ how do I get the rest of the fuse out? I don't wanna do any more damage if I don't have to.

You have to take off the frame of that fuse box first, then remove the 2 screws on that 140A fuse.

Remove the NEG terminal when doing this.
