My car recently idles at around 800/850 RPM. Also, 5 days ago the red security light on the left of the steering wheel stayed on when I was driving, and starting yesterday, my battery dash light displays when driving. The security light has since gone away. Does anyone have any ideas? It's been awful cold lately, could the extreme cold have done something? This is the first winter that this has happened btw.

 

Okay, so it's the alternator , and my car was basically driving off power from the yellow top for the last couple of days and tonight it stopped working, So my buddy picked me up and took me home. luckily I still have a spare oem alternator at home. I disconnected the battery and hope it will recharge.

 

take your battery to autozone and have them recharge it while your putting in your alternator, they do if for free, the battery should be fine
