Brake Light Switch

I think the stickies should include this topic...

I've checked the FSM and can't seem to locate it (nothing under brake light switch)...lots of posts but no mention on how/where to replace it.

Anyone point me in the right direction?? Thanks

(My back brake lights -all three of them don't light up when the brake is pressed). I know I have to replace this Brake light switch as mentioned in so many posts, just don't know what it looks like and where it's at.
I was looking in the el.pdf document of the fsm.

Thanks

The switch is on the brake pedal bracket; same switch turns on your brake lights and shuts off your cruise control. In the 97 FSM, it's on page BR-6. Hope this helps.

You did check the fuse first, right?

as stated above the brake light switch is on the reverse side of the brake pedal
there should be 2 wires going to it

Can anyone provide guidance on how to remove the old brake light switch? It looks like its held in place by a bolt and the space is too tight for me to get tools in there to loosen it. I REALLY don't want to have to pay someone else to do such a small job. Thanks!

Sorry, I just realized this thread is from February 2011, not February 2012. Hope I don't offend anyone by ressurecting an old thread, but I still need help either way with this brake light issue... Thanks

I recently had to replace the plastic button and adjust the switch position. IIRC, the switch itself screws into the bracket with an additional retaining nut that locks it into position. You should be able to squeeze a wrench in there to loosen the nut, then unscrew the switch assembly.

+1 on this. Unplug the connector first so the switch will unscrew freely.
