If so, that should be fine.

I do not remember for sure if I ended up getting a LSD axle from a canadian 95-99 or from the 5th gen AE. If I remember correctly I ended up getting the axle from a 2001 AE because it was nearly impossible (or really expensive) to get the 4th gen LSD axle.
Does this answer your question?

thanks guys , the non lsd 97 axle was identical, except that the part with teeth goes into the diff about 1/2 inch deeper.
i got the 01 vlsd ae trans and the yard had both axles too. so i just used those and everything worked just fine. im pretty sure the 97 passenger side would have worked , i put it in, didnt seem to hit anything when i turned it and peaked from the other side , but to be safe i used the 01 lsd axle.
thanks for the input guys,

guys, just to be clear.. bc i used the 01 vlsd axle but the inner boot seemed a little streched and in a weeks time its sounding under certain acceleration and turn angles. could be its was just a crappy napa used axle on its way out. or maybe the length isnt quite right on the 4th gen. so the consecus is that an 01 vlsd trans will be ok to use the 97 vlsd axle without any issues .. correct?

Actually if you're interested here is a link I found: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT
Dont know what brand these axles are but they are new and not rebuilt ones. Honestly depending on your finances I'd go with Raxles if I could afford them, they have a lifetime warranty compaired to the two year with most other companies.
Oh an you can use abs axles in non abs cars but not the other way round, just an fyi.

I have a VLSD AE tranny and stock pass axle. I had the AE driver axle but I broke it racing. Advance Auto sells new axles, no need for a core, and they are pretty cheap. I ordered an I30 VLSD driver axle but it was too short. Apparently Im the only one who has had an issue, so maybe I was retarded. The inner CV can move axially which changes overall length. Im pretty sure I stretched it out and it was still short.
I had to reorder an AE driver. Again Im the only one who has had an issue.
The pass axle is the same for every model, every transmission, Ive even used a 96 5spd in a 02 3.5l auto. The abs ring is on all the replacement axles Ive seen.
