yes, you can purchase and install the Y-pipe by itself if you cannot afford the rest of the exhaust at that time. however, if you want to purchase an aftermarket exhaust...you have many to choose from including, Greddy, HKS, Stillen, Apexi...just take your pic. I chose the Greddy exhaust and the exhaust tone is deep and nice...

The Greddy is a "CatBack" meaning the Greddy will run from you're Catalytic Convertor all the way out to the atmosphere. There's only two other things you'd be able to purchase along with that. A High-Flow Cat and a Y-Pipe.

So a high flow cat is all I need tto order for my complete exhaust?Originally posted by airmattdog

It goes
Y-pipe, Cat, B-pipe, and muffler.
You can buy them seperate in any interval you want, but the Y-pipe is going to give the most gains.
Catback systems contain the B-pipe and muffler.

I think you can just install you CAT-back and keep your stock cat. I think that the questionable gains for the high flow CAT aren't justifiable unless your CAT is really old and tired.

It's also illiegal to change out your cat if it has less than 50K on it.Originally posted by Mishmosh

it sounds like total BS... like if you have major problems with your exhaust that screw up your cat... its illegal to replace it?

If it is, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. I got bigger things to worry about, like how to pay for the next modOriginally posted by carnal_c30

well no matter what I already have the RT Cat so yea... better not lose any sleep over itSenior Member
If you are going to open up your exhaust with a cat-back system, an R/T cat, and a y-pipe to help your car exhale better, you may as well put in a hi-flow intake to help the engine inhale better, too. Of course you can add these one component at a time, but remember, the sum of the parts is greater than the whole in this case.

Haha, I didnt mean to scare any of you guys about the 6 year thing. The only reason I said that is because I just recently put on a Cattman Y pipe and a RT Cat and with the Cat came all of this literature, one particular document having to do with federal laws and such.
It is of significance for warranty purposes as Random Technology requires certain documents from the place of installation. Basically RT wants the installer to have knowledge of the law (if the installer actually cares) before he or she performs the work and most importantly because RT wants to save its a*s just incase. Pretty much the same idea as the "off-road use only" tag on many aftermarket performance parts.
This has little importance if one decides to fabricate the warranty documents which Im sure many people do.
The mechanic who installed my Y Pipe and Cat didnt care much about the laws mentioned except he did say he was required to keep the old cat for 5 days. Im not sure If I get it back after that time, but mine was fu*ked anyway so it didnt matter to me.
