5 outta 6 aint bad.. right?...
so heres the short and sweet story. I was having a weird misfiring problem before christmas. Bought 6 new ignition coils and that instantly fixed it...
now, i was driving to work yesterday and my check engine light started flashing. After doing research on here from last time i know thats from a severe misfire. Once i got off the highway i noticed my car was running like crap and i could feel and hear it skipping. When i got to work i checked my codes and i had 0606 (cylinder 3 misfire), 0509 (o2 sensor) and 0315 (o2 sensor).
when i got home i switched the 3rd cylinder and 5th cylinder coils and i havent got a CEL yet (only driven 10 miles) but i have a code reader and it gave me P0300 which is a multiple cylinder misfire.
This leads me to believe its the coil pack because switching it caused the code to change. Would it make sense so say that its now a multiple cylinder misfire because that one coil is bad and the original cylinder 3 misfire fouled the plug?
any other ideas? i really dont think its the fuel injector cause i can smell the unburnt gas.
I bought these coils about 2 months ago so they are still under warranty i just want to make sure my reasoning makes sense..
any input is more than welcome

Subscribed cuz my car is starting to buck like a bastard. First assumption is plugs, second, coil packs and third...well, third may be what your currently curious about..something to do with the MAF perhaps?

well last time i had this bucking problem i had a multiple cylinder misfire code. i changed the coils and it seemed to be fixed. my spark plugs are pretty new and i put NGK's in there so i dont think thats the problem.
i thought it could be maf but that wouldnt explain y i would just have a single cylinder misfire.

i bought them through a store on ebay. the guy had good feedback and sold mostly ignition coils and MAF's. The coils are Hansen brand and supposedly have a lifetime warranty.

yea Hanshin**.. i didnt even noticed i typed it wrong. ive heard good and bad things about those coils and those are the most available. i havent seen the Mitsubishi ones for sale online

well i checked my codes again today and now im getting a cylinder 1 misfire, which is the one i switched w/ cylinder 3 ( not 3 & 5 like i origionally said) so its gotta be the coil pack. the guy i bought everything from shipped me out a new one today so i should know within the next few days if that was the problem. Im hoping its that simple... until then im gonna be stuck getting like 15 mpg and not being able to go above 70... sweet

I had the same problem with my 98 maxima except only one of the coils was bad and I bought four used from a fellow maxima.org member for like $60 or so and half of those were bad but the third one I tried worked fine and the CEL went out after a few times driving it around so the fourth one may or may not be good I decided to not even try since my maxima is running fine now hopefully it does and I have an extra one in case another one craps out.

Possibly the same problem.
I have a 98 SE with roughly 105,000 nd it seems ive been having the same problems as the guys above. The engine turns when I hit the gas but sometimes it doesnt shift when it should, nd then it kicks into the correct gear. And 2 times, nd 2 times only, its not shifted at all, this caused me to pullover and turn the car off, but when i turn it back on, it runs fine . A couple times when i hit the gas, it seems like its not engaging nd then it shakes a little nd shifts. My mechanic drove it and said what he experienced seems like im having an engine misfire. He mentioned the coils? Does it seem this is right because I told him that I was afraid it was a transmission problem. Any assistance is greatly appriciated.

Coil Packs
Hey, I just found out yesterday that 3 of my coils are bad, so I'm going to replace all of them. Does anyone know any high performance brands, I dont just wanna put the pepboys or stock set back in. Thanks for any incite.

as far as i know there arent any high performance brands.. the two major companies that make them are mitsubishi and hanshin. Some people say the mitsubishi ones are better while others say the hanshin ones are better. I would stick to either of those two brands. There isnt too much information on the autozone or pepboys brands ones although the autozone ones probably have a lifetime warranty.
