Possible TC noise but not sure

my 95 GLE has 124k on her and just replaced the TC tensioner about 6 months ago due to bad start up rattle and bad rattle at idle.

noticed something the other day while accelerating at about 3k just to get around someone in traffic. Could only hear the noise with radio off or low and was very subtle still but noticeable. Caught my attention at first because it sounded like Timing Chain noise but after revving the motor to 3k while standing in front of the car hood open I was unable to hear the noise.

The noise is for sure coming from the passenger side

oil level is fine just changed 2 weeks ago mobil 1 10w30 synthetic
mobil 1 oil filter

no codes and didnt look like anything was out of place. Any help appreciated

Prolly is the chain. Did u replace the chain when u changed the tensioner? And where the heck u find replacement tensioner or did u jus rebuild/clean the old one?

U might have jus been hearing valve noise. When the chain is ready to go, it gonna sound like a helicopter taking off.

I wdnt worry bout it if the noise is faint especially if u replaced the chain when u did the tensioner.

Find my issue to be my IACV ticking against my brake lines. Which for one reason or another sounded like it was coming from the passenger side fo the bay, but all taken care of built a bracket for it and all noise is gone.

btw cashoit i got a tensioner from courtesy nissan they are the only place that sells 95 tensioners because they do have issues and do tend to go out...only the 95s i believe. I got a spare one from PMHOR they are hard to come by though

also those wondering how my iacv was resting against the break lines....00vi remote IACV

just out of curiousity,

did you replace the guides or just the tensioner?
and how many miles do you have?

i want to do this to my car but i have a feeling im not gonna have such an easy job, i was going to do the guides tensioner and water pump
if its possible to get away with just the tensioner im all for it
btw i have 215k

i didnt change the guides. I took a gamble and changed out the tensioner becasue 9/10 times the tensioner will be the culprit of mid mileage VQ chain noise Helicopter noise would mean something is REALLY messed up with the guides. you prob wouldnt need to touch the guides unless the tensioner doesnt fix it for you.

to replace the waterpump the tensioner must be removed anyways so good idea to do both although i didnt haha. I took of the passenger motor mount for more room and moved the powersteering resevior over out of the way then jacked up the motor a little bit from the oil pan side to give me more room to work with.

youll see two black covers on the TC cover. Remove the one on the left (closest to the cabin of the car) for the TC tensioner 4 10mm bolts and 2 10mm bolts for the tensioner MAKE SURE YOU PIN THE TENSIONER PLUNGER BEFORE REMOVAL otherwise she will make an easy hour job into an all night. I would know that for a FACT (the plunger is still buried in my engine bay) then put in the new Tensioner after the water pump is removed and installed....

otherwise to do the guides you have to remove the whole tc cover which is tough to do with the engine in the car...
