Can I use the steering colume from a 1995 in a 1996?

Can I use the steering colume from a 1995 in a 1996?
My friend lost the key and the **** sucking dealer don't keep the key codes anymore. Will this work out?

Hard way to solve problem. A locksmith can cut a new key even without an old one. Or you can just change the lock cylinder in the steering column.
