project:maxima gets racked!

What a day......coming home from work this afternoon, I am pulling into my street and a little punk comes out of a sidestreet without even stopping and rams into the front of my '96 SE Maxima. Wiped out the passenger side light, hood, bumper cover and quarter panel. A rough guess at the damage would be $5,000. Needless to say the project which was going to be a smaller project has now become a BIG project............

Insurance $ = 97-99 headlights, new bumper (maybe from Shadow's new body kit or with Stillen lip if you can find a good price), Z3 fenders if you want them, CF hood.

Turn that frown upside down.

When you're in an accident you can have the car appraised at a shop and ask the insurance company to cut you a check for the value of the damage instead of paying the shop directly. You can use that money to buy whatever you want. It's supposed to go to replacing the damaged parts with OEM parts but you don't have to do that.

Correction: the money the insurance company pays you is the fair market price to replace/replair any damage to your car (ostensibly with OEM parts and the going rate for mechanical or body labor). It is your choice to have the work done with OEM parts, aftermarket parts, or just spend enough to make the car legal and drivable (pocketing the rest). IT'S YOUR CAR AND YOUR MONEY!!!! DON'T LET THE INSURANCE COMPANY TELL YOU WHAT TO DO WITH EITHER OF THEM!!!!

mmmkay?

This weekend (on Saturday) something similar happened to me. Except my Max hit driver side at the joint between the quarter panel and door. I was bumped in a direction of telephone pole and luckily I managed to steer clear of it. My car ended up straddling a gulley on the side of the street with an un-natural looking camber to the front L wheel and God know what all else. I know I should be thankful I am alive, but I can't help to think about how ****ed I am that some punk a$$ 16 y.o. girl could steal so much joy from me.

Officers on the scene told me that the frame on the driver side looks bent. Any of you with a similar accident? Is it reparable?
