Squeaking noise coming from Front Driver Side Caliper

Hey guys,

I got an issue with my right front brake caliper.

It sounds like there is something rubbing up against the rotor (it comes and goes), but when I took it apart and inspected it everything was fine (i.e. Caliper itself is not seizing up as I was able to push it back in, or is that not enough to determine that?).

I inspected the pads and they seem fine (installed new not too long ago), I even added some brake pad lubricant to them for good measure.

It cleared up yesterday but now its back again. has anyone else dealt with a similar issue?

What can I do to fix it?

perhaps its the dust shields bent in the way of the rotor?

Dust cover not rubbing against rotor.

Caliper seems ok for a 16 yr old car (I.e. worn but not in visible need of replacemment)

Hit a bump on the way home and didn't hear the squeaks the whole way home. I'm starting to guess that the caliper is not disengaging properly after hitting the breaks (the nuts that push the caliper back) gonna check it out on Saturday.

Update: Squeaks came back this morning, its really annoying.

I had a noise like rotor grinding on somethin when i took a hard turn. Front driver side.

After the drop where i replaced mounts and bearing, dust boots and camber bolts. No more noise

Well when I took the caliper apart I noticed that the inside brake pad cover was damaged due to friction so it might have something to do with the inside pad not disengaging properly. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears. Don't really wannna take it to a shop and have them tell me some overkill solution like change the rotor or the caliper (or both!)

could be the caliper or could be wheel bearing when the go bad they make all sorts of different noises to check if its bad take the wheel off and rotor off grab the studs at the 9 oclock an 3 oclock position and try and wiggle it side to side and up and down if it has play its going bad

Another thing I noticed was that there was a bit of play on the rotor when I took the caliper off. I was told in one instance that it was normal for the front rotors and that the wheel holds it in place when mounted. Was I misinformed?

Update: Removed rotor checked wheel bearings, found no issues. What I did find was that the rear side of the rotor was pitting and had uneven wear so I replaced it. Still sqeaking but only when breaking and nowhere near as bad (attributing it to uneven wear on brake pads which should go away once pads even out).

Just realized two things!

I put the pads back in backwards
Didn't remove grease coating from new rotor.

Not an issue yet but not about to let it become one.

Looks like I'm not out of the woods yet.

Had the same thing happen to me this past summer. My caliper pins were seized. Going forward, I'm going to start cleaning all brake parts and re-grease the caliper pins before every winter. Going to do a rear brake job as soon as it gets a little warmer and I'm certain the rear calipers are seized.

The sliders seem to be notorious for seizing on these cars. I R&R mine twice a year for good measure. Had one sieze on a brand new setup in less than 6 months once!
