Speed sensor code
Speed sensor code
Changed my knock sensor today and while i was clearing the codes i got a 0104 i think it was which was the vehicle speed sensor. Funny thing is my speedometer is working fine? Anyone else had experience with this?
I was reading the fsm (at-32) about the VSS and it says this about it:
Vehicle speed sensor -
Used as an auxiliary vehicle speed sensor. Sends a signal when revolution sensor
(installed on transmission) malfunctions.
So it sounds like the speedometer will still work with a bad VSS.

The VSS connects directly to the gauge cluster, and from there a signal is sent to the ECU. So if your ECU is throwing DTC 0104 and the speedometer is still working, check the connection from the gauge cluster (pin 14, pink w/ blue stripe) to the ECU (pin 29, pink w/ blue stripe). It passes through what the FSM calls a junction box (M91) on the way.

It's in the automatic transmission case, on the top corner towards the firewall. Stand on the left side of the car by the front wheel. Look between the brake master cylinder and the air filter box. Look downwards towards the center of the car.
