Headers and exhaust

Currently looking up and buying parts, so far i got my aero muffler and the resonator. Now im thinking to go with a hi flow magnaflow cat and get the spyder headers.

My question is do i need the precats on the headers and if theres any other cat ideas im open to suggestions

from what i've read, THEIR not necessary..but the pre-cats on your stock Y/headers is what keeps the noise down...

Define "need the pre-cats". U talkin' emissions-wise?
Here's an idea for the whole exhaust system, try to get everything from headers back the same brand for the best performance.

the highflow magnaflow cat isnt a direct bolt on normally. the extra cost to put the flanges and the 1" extension on the 12" cat costs about as much as the Cattman cats... just a thought?!

like i said, as far as cats go, it ends up being almost the same price... his headers are expensive as heck, but worth every penny too. id just stick with the y and cat though.

What is this "spyder headers" you are talking about?

I know a lot of people have recommended the Warpspeed Y Pipe for the Maximas. I just picked up a set of XS Power short headers and a Warpspeed aluminized steel Y Pipe and that combination does not fit well. The WS Y Pipe requires cutting and welding to fit onto the XS headers. Not so if you bolt the Pipe onto stock headers.

Some people also mentioned the use of headers with longer-length runners, I forgot the brand of those.

Return the Magnaflow cat, and stay with the OEM cat, a hi flow cat will not give you any great gains, especially for the money. A test pipe will give you better gains, and it will only be in the range from 2-3whp on an NA vehicle.
A y pipe or equal legnth headers will both eliminate the precats, should be able to still pass emissions though. The equal legnth headers will give better gains then the Y pipe, but costs quite a bit more and is not as easy to install as the Y pipe.
Those Spyder headers are shorty headers, and no telling how the fitment is. I cant see a good pic of them. You'd be better off going with the Ypipe.

Cattman Headers, Cattman Fastcat, Cattman 3" exhaust, IMO, is the best exhaust set-up available for 4th and 5th gens.

Fitment, gains, quality, it's all there.

If you get the Cattman headers, you dont need the Y pipe.

Fitment*, gains, quality, it's all there.

*Fitment of the 3" exhaust is nearly perfect on the 4th gen. The only problem is at the gas tank. The piping is too far off center in the exhaust tunnel at the gas tank, and as a result, will bang on the trailing arm occasionally
Fixed...

Does the same on my 5th gen, even more so after PUR engine bushings, and sits a bit further back than I would like so I'm going to remove the heat sheild that you also removed on the first 90º bend on my 5th gen.

I also think I need to get under there and bang a few things into place and install some stiffer hangers to get rid of some of the rattling. Currently I'm using stock hangers wrapped in hose clamps. Didn't rattle on day 1, but has since developed a couple here and there @ certain frequencies.

That's what we get for installing sewer pipe on our lowly family sedans.
