Top Speed, 95 vs 99

The 95 SE 5spd has been tested to 142mph, and the 97-99 Maximas 5spd were only tested to 130mph.
The same way that the 95s are faster then the 99s because of emissions control & weight, is this also the reason the top speed is slower? There is no speed limiter at all on SE's which means that with mods, the top speed should increase as well as accelaration. Right?

according to whom? I have a '99 SE-L and have taken it to 140 (clear road, curious mind, etc...)

The top speed of the Maxima will occur in 5th gear just below the rev limiter, so the only way to increase top speed is to make your engine turn faster, make the body more aerodynamic, or maybe change the gearing in the tranny. There are no bolt-on mods that do any of those.

Make sense?

The JWT ECU will change your redline to either 6800 or 7000 even. this should provide a slightly faster top speed.

I had 1 99 SE-L also and had it pegged on the speedo and wrapping around. After you hit 130 the car BARELY accelerates. I'm guessing the mags have only a short area to try top seppd. It took a mile-2 miles to get from 130 -140 (or at least it seemed that way). The car is a dog after 130... so if you race don't race past that speed

Ive gotten to 150 but i have done some extensive work to the under body areo dynamics and just to let you know bigger rims give higher top ends. when i tested it i was on 18's. The only reason i know it was 150 was i had a friend with a supra pace me. once i got to 135 it seemed to get to 150 farily quick. Just the other night going south on 95 a nother max (white 97-99 w/ all kind of strobs and slamed on cromes)decied to race and he found out about my top speed.

Are you sure the 18's did not affect your speedo? Did your friend get to the same 150 and did he/she have 18's?

yeah he has the same rims as me and yeah they affect your spedo but ours doesnt go that far so i went off of his and he said it only affects it by 1.5 mph so if you want to be technical 148.5.

do this

how about yall do this..
have a car that you know can do like 150
go infront of you.... and then you follow
that car... on its ***... and you'll have more
chances of getting to a higher speed...

this is dangerous, you know???

it worked for my friends accord.. it would take half the time if you follow someone cause you'd b like (i think the term is ) drifting

havent yall seen days of thunder????

Right on! Good idea: you'd be letting a more powerful car push most of the air out of your way and attain a higher top speed... but it's kinda cheating. You could also just let a Viper pull you to 170, and you'd be the fastest Max on the gound! Or put your Max inside the cargo bay of a 747 and be the fastest Max in the air. They're all cheating, but still, you'd have bragging rights.

You would most certainly slow down.
