Congratulations, so now what does the EIT certification get you? Is it like having an engineering degree without all the hassle of college? Can you go out and engineer now? What kind of engineer (electrical probably?)...

Congrats! I'm still waiting for my results. If you don't mind me asking, what engineering discipline do you have?

Congrats on your EIT success! I guess many of us are engineers on this forum. I also passed my EIT - a long time ago - probably 20 years now, but did not go on to register as a PE. The PE is not important at my company, as we're not doing bridges, buildings, etc., where one would need to sign off as a PE. I find advanced degrees (Masters and PhD) more useful as indicative of ability. But... anytime you pass a test, it's worthy of celebration!!!

Happy New Year!

Hey Justin. Thanks for the congrats. That's a good questions 'what does it get you?'. I guess in and of itself, nothing. It is "just a piece of paper". But, it's what it stands for that really makes it meaningful/useful/benificial to you/your career. You not only passed a test but you actually are and EIT. And like I said, that by itself extends you no extra privialages/rights but instead reflects greatly on how other engineers and employers view you. This is where the benefits lie. In raises, resumes, interviews, etc.

No, it isn't the same as getting a college degree. However, you are right in saying that you don't need a college degree to take/pass the EIT.

'Can I go out and engineer now?' To answer that, yes, I can. But I also could/did before I passed. It isn't an engineering license. And you don't need an EIT or a license to 'engineer'. However, you can only work under an engineer. A licensed professional engineer who needs to stamp the plans. So the EIT kind of means you're half way there. After this I need to take the PE (Professional Engineer) exam. You actually don't need to have a degree/go to school to become an EIT or a PE, beleive it or not. You need to be graduated for x years to take the PE or you have to be in the field for x+y years to take the PE if you don't have a degree.

I am civil.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

stash905, please add to/correct me as needed. Thanks.

Hey Sille. Good luck, let me know how you did. What state are you in? Like I told justmax, I am civil. You?
