"Cylinder 3 Misfire" Help

After taking a short drive to subway, my car started to act a little strange. I noticed through the past few weeks that my car has lost power mostly through 1st gear and 2nd. 3rd gear and up seemed to have alright power. Meaning no stuttering or hesitation like 1st or 2nd.

Anyway, as I was pulling away from a light after being stopped for maybe 2 minutes, I noticed an immediate loss in power while going through first, (kinda like an ignition coil being out) but I was also getting a horrible "tapping" noise coming from the engine. It sounded like it may have been the lifters and I figured I may want to check my water and oil. That was all fine.

So, as I made the decision to take some back roads home, I noticed my CEL throwing another code (the previous one was a 0205 Idle Speed Control code) 0606 Cylinder 3 Misfire.

I thought it may be my ignition coil at first, but the tapping is what made me confused. Is it my lifter that possibly went out? I just got all brand new Nissan Ignition Coils 3 years ago and also changed the plugs out with some NGK Iridium at the same time. I also got 3 new fuel injectors for the rear. I'm a little baffled on this one...

Any help is much appreciated!

We don't have hydraulic lifters. I'm gonna say broken valve spring.

Damn. Would that mean replacing the whole valve? Wouldn't it be more of a knocking noise if it was a valve?

Also, where is the location of cylinder 3? It's seems I need to buy another Haynes manual now. The only time I needed it. >_<

I think three is center rear. Do a compression test and a leakdown test.

dont think u shd jumo to conslusions about valves yet. Do a compression test on that cylinder. If that isnt the problem then u have a bad coil, injector or spark plug

Thanks for the skippy on the cylinder order! I actually did find it like an hour later after posting this.

And I will do a compression test on cylinder 3 first and go from there, but what do you think is causing the tapping noise?

I'm new and this sounds similar to my problem, plz help!

MY new 98 maxima was running quick as a bullet and responsive and my fiancee dropped it from drive into neutural while accelerating at hi rpm and held open throttle til the choke or what they call it kicked in(governor, limiter)... a few days later during normal driving, the car all of a sudden lost power and since then, feels faster(better, less stuttering) when started cool and feels like its lost about half power and worse when it gets warm... 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear seem alright, but a lot more shaking in 4th at 60mph or less(or about 3k+rpm)... cle says 2nd cyl misfire and 1st cyl vacuum leak... what could be wrong?

My 95 se has a wierd misfire problem aswell that i cant seem to figure out.

2wks ago i had a code for knock and cyl 2 mis. Well this past friday it read multiple mis with the knock code. So on saturday i changed the plugs. Afterwards a code popped for knock and cyl 5 mis. I bought a new coil put it in and still same problem. So i decided to check something. I put the old coil back in and swapped it with coil 3 my problem still remains on cyl 5. Yesterday codes popped up saying cyl 5 mis knock and a p1320. I got a troubleshoot for autozone stating 4 things with the 1320
A) short or open circuit
B) cam position sensor
C) power transistor unit
D) ignition ballast resistor

The last 2 dont count since theres no distributor.

Will a cam sensor only cause 1 cyl to misfire or will it have a multiple. This things driving me nuts and im about to just say to hell with it and get rid of it. I dont have the money to keep dumping into it and it still doesnt fix my problem

Any advice besides taking it to a shop
