I highly doubt that'll result in a loss of power.

you wont lose power but it may be faster all that weight is now gone... oh right its not a honda

seriously your SES light may come on for an evap gross leak, but you wont loose any power, you may also get poor fuel mileage from the gas evaporating from the filler neck. i think you should replace it just for the mileage you will be losing.
im not sure exactly how sensitive our ecm is on this type of code.

Check for codes.

Otherwise Replace your KS, Clean your MAF, clean your fuel system, and your throttle body.

Paul what kind of ghetto *** way is this to check if the light works?

does come on in acc mode (key on engine off)
Yes this is a way quicker and easier way and you won't accidentally kill your maf
