New here....basic questions...

I'm thinking of getting either a 97 or 98 Maxima. I was wondering what to look for. Basically what is the performance of the Maxima and what is the aftermarket like? Also, what is a "good" price from a dealer? Thanks!!

performance stock is 190 hp and 200 tq, 0 - 60 in 6.7 seconds and 1/4 mile anywhere from 14.7 - 15.8 (some people are awesome drivers) .. aftermarket.. first thing you can get is a y pipe.. you have lots of vendors to choose from.. great gains.. that will get you mid to low 14's.. then you can get an Intake and other stuff.. or you can go for the big stuff and get Supercharger or Nitrous.. that will put you 12's - 13s' 1/4 mile...

anywhere from $8k - $9k for GXE Models, $8k - $10k for SE models, and $9k - $12k for GLE Models

What my friend Sprint forgot to mention was the '95's are a flek faster and come in at 6.6 0-60 and 1/4th in about the same as sprinty said. And you look around you can still find ones in really good condition for cheeper. With the money you saved you could save up for a supercharger. Now if you get that, it's ALL over for anyone who tries to streetrace you.

I personally, love my '95 SE "5SP."

Btw, everybody mentioned "go-faster" mods, so far. If "handling" is your bag too bay-bee, then definitely get a Rear Anti-Sway bar (Addco or Stillen). Best bang for the buck suspension upgrade you can get.

The mods list goes on from there, of course. No shortage of ways to spend $ on your Max. Once you get the bug, your car will take a new financial priority in your life. Ask anyone who's already hooked! Girlfriends & spouses be damned!

Seriously though, substantial improvements can be made to your ride with all the bolt-on options available for the Max. Hope to welcome you in officially soon! Good luck w/ the search.

Get the 5 speed. Then there are no regrets later.
