My brother plasti-dip to paint his rims a few weeks ago then painted the plasti-dip gold. When he wants a different color he'll just peel it off and repaint it. I must say they came out pretty good. What do you all think?

paint it with plasti dip- then paint over the plasti dip with spray paint- endless colors and finish and it can be peeled off when you get sick of the look.

Can have multiple rim colors time after time

That's a really cool idea. Also, diggin' the front plate - does md really offer plates like that? or is that just a regular md plate all chopped up?

For the Record, Plastidip is available online in custom colors, and at Lowe's.

It Is also Extremely Durable.. My friend with the challenger has had hims rims done for over a year now. Still perfect.

No. It Won't The only issues you'll have is from gravel roads. Which I live in the middle of BFE and we have those here. Even then it will just appear as curb rash.

Just trust me and do it damnit.

The plsti-dip by it's self looked good, almost like a black gun metal. But it's not a bad idea, confuse people and say you have 1000 different colored rims lol

yup, this stuff has recently got on our board as well (zx2). a member did his whole car with it, and it actually looked ok. used about 8 cans on our little car (he said 3 light coats total). i'm thinking about spraying my hood and wheels with it

How much did it take to do a set of wheels? (how many cans/containers?) Is it in spray cans or what? (what's the application process?)

What size were the rims, and how many coats did he do?

The Challenger has 18" Rims, and he did 3 Coats IIRC.

If you want a more glossy look, could you actually clear coat plastidip? If so, would it still peel off easily?

stuff is nice! easy to spray, re-do, and cures quick. couple of coats and it seems durable.

I am under the assumption you can even spray paint over the plasti dip and it should be able to peel away just as easy.

In theory, you can have any color rims you want.

@ the op, not a fan of the gold but overlooking the color i think it looks nice

seems inexpensive and easy but exactly how much does it cost and how easy is it? might put that on my list of things to do

Ive heard that you have to wait for the plastidip to completely dry before painting over it otherwise it changes the paint and wont peel off.

don't spray too many coats, guys. mine look like swiss cheese a bit (tiny, tiny holes). maybe it was the user-error. i'll have to redo them anyway. the stuff is pretty strong after 2-3 coats. think of it as a bra for your bumper. thick enough coats should respond well to rocks (don't go mudding or off-roading tho lol) and other daily-driving obstacles.
