Changed coil now getting code 0201

I just changed my bank 1 coil as I was getting the misfire code for that coil bank on my 99 GLE. That and the knock sensor code were the only codes that were being thrown and I did a manual reset three times to verify as well as used my Dad's code reader. The car was showing all the symptoms of a bad coil pack and the stutter was getting progressively worse. After changing the coil I drove the car around the neighborhood to get it up to operating temp and it now idles and runs sooooo much better but it is throwing another code the 0201 which I searched and found out is the ignition signal circuit. I have reset the code and checked the connection on bank one to make sure it was secure and it is. Any other ideas as to why this code would come up after changing the coil but not before when the coil was obviously bad?

Oh and the plugs on the car were replaced this time last year and a new alternator and belt and battery were put on the car last fall.

Many aftermarket coils throw this code when new. Some brands are better than others but used oem seems the best. Do a search here to find the better replacement suppliers. Stay away from 99 or handgun. The best OEM are marked with Mitsubishi emblem.

Thank you for that info. Does that code go away once the coil wears in a little? I did do a search before purchasing this coil and could not find any info on the Hitachi coils but I got a really good deal on a new one so I went with it. I asked about them in the newbie thread but got no feedback there either. Do you have any experience with Hitachi coils?

I have no first hand experience changing maxima coils. The resistance value is off on your new coil and it wont get better.

So the new coil is bad? Or can the resistance value be corrected? Is it bad to run the car with it off? The car sure seems to run so much better now. I will search this info but if anyone has any helpful hints for me they would be very much appreciated!

Its not "bad" they just fudged a couple +/- on the primary windings. It will throw a cell but shouldn't hurt anything. Just get your money back and get one from someone else.[/

UGH. I have been driving with the light on for so long because of this and a knock sensor ghost code I don't even notice it anymore so I may just leave it for now since getting my money back may prove more trouble than it is worth. Thank you very much for the info!

my mechanic installed a NAPA coil that cured a skip, but set off the check engine light. he took it back and went to nissan and got an oem coil that turned off the ck engine light.

NAPA coils=chinese=junk

Ok so I cleared the codes and checked the connection on cylinder one and then drove the car today. Now I have the 0201 and the 0605 which is cylinder 5 misfire now and the car is doing its rough idle and is noticeably misfiring. Cylinder 5 appears to be the hardest to get to (figures) or else I would change it out with the new one on 1 to see if it follows the coil pack. Could the 0201 have been showing up because coilpack 5 was also on the way out and just hadn't thrown a code yet or could the new coil on cylinder 1 causing this?

Bump for suggestions. I am still trying to figure out how much of the stuff I have to move in order to get the coil out of cylinder 5 to test it with the new coil in cylinder 1.
