2 Lower ball joints = $300

This was my first time taking my Max to a mechanic shop to replace 2 front lower ball joints and got A$$ rapped ($300). For me $300 is a lot of coin.

Never again! Never AGAIN!

*sigh* I'm on my 5th beer, 3 shots of Jack and still pissed off.

I'm sure I'm not alone one this... so, what type of work did you have your mechanic do that made you fell like you've wanted to kill him as a result of him/her rapping you?

I had control arms, inner/outer tie rods and ***** joints done on both sides of my car for 150$ by a shade tree mechanic. When I took the money out of my pocket, I felt like I should have did it myself.

This happened today.

well put it this way, $300 for both, so $150 a piece. with an average price of about $50 to $75 per ball joint from the shop and the rest being on labor its actually not bad...still a lot, but remember there is lot of work to get to the actual ball joint....

It's not that difficult of a job. Especially if you have the right tools. A balljoint press can take the balljoint off of the control arm while the control arm is still on the car!

I cant understand why people are so afraid of saying this "How much will it be to change xxxx" so that you know before the job is done.

You mechanic has bills to pay too.
Rent
Salary
Utilities
Tools & equipment to buy
Marketing & Advertising his business
Insurance, both liability and health

His time = money!
$300 isn't bad at all for the job he did for you.
Most shops around me have a labor rate of around $85/hr.

Learn how to DIY and save some $$, otherwise PAY THE MAN!

for real! why do people always ***** and don't do anything? or want everything done right away and for real cheap? stop wasting money on alcohol and buy a wrench set... maybe learn how to rap, so next time he won't be rapping you.
