PCV Catch Can After 3 Weeks.
My Lowe's Home Racing PCV Catch Can after only 3 Weeks time.
3 Of these for sale $35 each!
(1) with 5/16" Nipples
(2) with 3/8" Nipples
I legitimately noticed a Humongous increase in fuel economy. Up from 18-20 to 22-25 Mostly Highway and high rev.
This is the routing of the PCV system
Just to clarify, as it took a second for myself.. That big weird looking thingy off to the top right.. That's supposed to be our stock airbox.. Also check out our Awesomely Huge Oil Pan! Was the engineer Drunk when he drew this diagram?

Nice. Thanks for sharing. Mind sharing how you have this routed? Maybe a nice semi-zoomed in engine shot of how you did the plumbing? Just curious how you did it, as I believe I've seen two ways of doing it.

That's a decent increase in MPG, though some 4th gen's get that MPG without the PCV valve. So...

Looks like about a pint upwards to 1/2 qt of oil in there over only 3 weeks.
Doesn't anyone else think that's excessive blow by?
I have a hard time believing that's normal.
Your IM would be soaked in oil.
Is that system working correctly or is it sucking excessively causing that to happen?
If that's your engine crankcase gassing in only 3 weeks I'd be thinking your rings are shot! How many miles? In 6 weeks you'd be down almost a quart of oil due to that condition. Again, that's not normal.

What air compressor filter are you using? Is it a Husky? I'm heading down to lowe's tomorrow so I might pick one up along with some brass tube fittings. I already have several feet of 3/8" inner diamter air hoses.

im not a mechanic, so please pardon the noobness. does the oil in the catch can get re-routed back in the crankcase? does it just sit there and collect and you pour it out with every oil change?

Thanks for the pics FallenOne (especially the last pic), much appreciated.
There's been lots of threads on this over the years, but in those threads I never see an overall engine shot showing the routing of the plumbing.
Some individuals put this on both front and rear vc's.

You think the PCV transports oil? You ain't seen **** until you've seen the oil the front carries to the rear! Also, I couldn't if i tried.. When I replaced my crappy brittle hose's with shiny new ones, the one for the front to rear VC breather came apart in my hands; I ended up using a larger sized hose and clamped it tight; moral of the story too big to use a catch can on.

You don't want to run the filter in there, SEVERELY impacts the flow, for instance i put my lips onto the nipple and blew as hard as i could and the flow was awful. Heres an analogy the catch can without the filter is a garden hose, with it; its like one of those coffee stirrer straws, yaknow the tiny ones.

Decided im going to sell these. Have 3 Already Made. PM me!
Final Price is 40 Shipped in the CONUS.
Just a question actually... Can anyone think of a way to possibly do this? The Catch can's are capped off on the bottom so that Oil does not leak, But I'm wondering is there is in fact a way to recirculate it...

lets get rich and manufacture this!

But:
My B13 has the crank case vented to the atmosphere and it makes a mess. Dont bother.

But your B13 has forced induction. NA engines *should* have less blow-by.
To do it right means NONE of the crank case plumbing can be connected to the intake plumbing. Cap of the intake manifold port, resonator port, remove the pcv and put a filter on both valve covers.

And you have 240k miles on your car???? That's good!
I know K&N has that little PCV vent filter you can install in case there is a little blow-by, the filter will catch it. I remember that became a bit popular in the mid '90s.

You've inspired me to finally do this to my car. It works great and I swear the engine feels better. It's a great compliment to the added timing I am running via an EU. And I have noticed a mileage improvement as well.
Like JSutter suggests, I think I am going to put a breather filter on the front valve cover, and on the out side of the catch can. Less oil in my intake means less carbon build up. I'm cleaning a set of old heads now, and have already done the pistons in a motor I am rebuilding. I want the inside of this motor to STAY clean. You don't really appreciate a clean motor until you spend tens of hours cleaning the baked on carbon out of an old one.

I also felt a performance increase by doing this and you won't know how much oil precipitation is going into your intake until you have one. The theory works, the oil sucked into the intake is a lower octane so it doesn't combust as easy, the engineers route the oil blowby back into the intake for emission purposes only. The front cover hose I did not see any blowby what so ever, all the oil i have seen came from the back cover through the pcv valve. The air compressor filter should be fine if you are NA but if you are boosted it is better to have some sort of media to help trap the oil droplets. Either way adding media to the catch will hlep trap more droplets and keep it out of the intake.

Sorry, but that all seems like speculation.
Does it keep your intake CleanER? Yes. (and for best results, you need more than one...)
Does it increase mileage or performance? Not proven and highly doubt it.
Not trying to **** on your boat, I just don't stand by misleading claims for profit.
/yes I have one installed.
