Stealership question
Does it cost $960 to replace a condensor for a 1995 Maxima SE? I found a condensor online for $294, Nissan OEM. Any other parts have to be replaced? Stealership suggested I buy an air guide?! Gave me a part number and all. Can't find the sepc in my Nissan Maxima OEM service manual. All advice would be appreciated. Thanks

that's crazy. Put the compressor on your self then take it to a shop to have it vacuumed and then properly charged with R134. I would replace the O rings while I was in there if I were you.
**also in order to do this you will need to properly remove the pressure/freon from the lines before taking the compressor off**

What would that accomplish other than wasting your own time? Dealers are in business to maximize profit, and I find them uninterested in working on older vehicles. Their techs are trained on the new models, and they may have a high turnover of techs, so nobody there is familiar with or wants to work on a 4th generation Maxima.

you crazy, i have 4 nissan dealerships near me and would trust 3 of the 4 to work on maxy if they were'nt lookin to rape me. but yeah, you'd be wasting your time doing that and burning a bridge you might need to cross at a later date.

They not rippin u off man. The dealer is the dealer. He chargers the most cuz u are paying for his expertise, experience, and knowledge of the car. THAT cost extra. its nothing personal.

Telling you price for a service which is more than you want to pay, well that's hardly ripping you off.
Think about it this way: whatever you do for a living, I can find someone who will do it for less than you earn. Does that mean you are ripping off your employer?

Thanks for your comments, much appreciated. Well $294 for a part is OK but $670 for labor from the dealer I don't think is paying because I have to. Doing the math it comes to 7 hours worth of work? I went through this years ago when I had a Mitsubishi and I got part of my money back. This dealer I have had some issues with but they are convenient and the main thing is I always get NIssan OEM parts on my car. I dealt with a mechanic for 4 years and all those aftermarket parts, failed.

also, remember, they are not selling you the part for the price you found online - they have their own mark-up on the part - so the difference, going through the dealer, is NOT all labor. Also, most dealers will NOT install parts THEY do not provide, simply for the warranty aspect - they cannot provide ANY warranty on any part they do not provide, so many will not work on those parts - period...
