Cold Start Up Problems...

I have an uncle who has a 98 Maxima GXE (plain jane).. a week ago, after 5 turns with the key there was no start. The engine was turning though. At the the 5th turn of the key and pumping (I know, its fuel injected but I had to try anyway) the car finally starts with a slight gargle. It drives on the highway very smooth and no other problems. Warm starts have no problems also. I used a aftermarket fuel injector cleaner and dry-gas and everything seems fine right now. Any suggestions? The car has 23,000 miles on it. Frequent oil changes at 2000 miles and he baby this car. What do you guys think? all replies are appreciated!

Re: Cold Start Up Problems...

Sounds like my 95 last winter.

In any case, the fix en vogue seems to be to clean out your throttle body. I wouldn't expect much contamination at only 23k miles but you never know.

My OEM battery only lasted 2 1/2 years or about 25k miles. You might want to check to see if the fluid in the battery needs to be filled up with deionized water, and even have it tested.

i had a similar problem with my 91 SE..turned out to be a dead injector..replaced it, it still had bad starts...then turned out to be the O-ring on the injector, it was pinched..therfore losing pressure in the fuel line....i replaced all 6 O-rings and the injector insulators...car now runs like new

I have a 96 max SE and i had that same problem when my buddy checked out my car on the computer he found that my knock censor was bad along with the EGR control celinoid*. I know these 2 problems are emmisions related so i had to fix them anyways but what he found was the the AIC motor wasnt working properly so he took it off (which is located near the windshield ) cleaned it out and it was really dirty, after that my car ran awesome also after replacing the starter which is a big problem in the 96 max. So have your car put on the computer and maybe have the Idle Air control motor checked out also. good luck, email me if u have any questions.

HAHAHAHAHA, ive got a solution for ya. it's 100% guaranteed.... JUST GO TO AUTOZONE and grab a THROTTLE BODY CLEANER(INTAKE CLEANER) and clean your throttle body. ive had same problem with ma 97 SE and once i clean it no more problem..... just go to www.motorvate.ca and your all set to go..... THIS WILL SOLVE IT FOR SURE

Similar Problem

I too had a cold start problem, a couple times when I went up to the mountains (in 30F temp). It would stall when starting. This is not a real concern of mine cause this car will probably be in that kind of weather only 2 or 3 times a year. Is there any other benefit to cleaning the Throttle Body? Should I do it anyway? 97SE /w 53k auto.
