I think you'll receive more help here if you decide to tackle this problem yourself. A shop is just gonna nickle and dime you. The org has has good info on troubleshooting these issues..

just because you don't know of anyone in SoCal who can do a 3.5 swap correctly or successfully doesn't mean their isnt a person who can do it the right way. just sayin.

well yea i know that about shops thats why like i said earlier i took it to a org member shop who has done engine and tranny swaps on his own 4th gen. He has been on the org since early 2000's and has done his own 3.5 swap, Dek swap, 5 spd swap, and so forth you name it he has done it as far as the 4th gens go back in the days that is. He is very experienced in what he does trust me otherwise i would have never opted to buy this car and go for a 3.5 swap in the first place. If i didnt know/have someone who knew what they were doing lol i would have never bought this car lol worst case scenario sell it to someone who wants to play with it cuz i dont. I was under the impression it would run for at least a month than i would go for the 3.5 swap from a guy who has successfully done it.

I only know of two people in socal who did this swap. first was Peter (maximus_95)who never got the car running properly afterwards, got fed up and sold it... (read this thread:http://forums.maxima.org/all-motor/5...ped-3-5-a.html)... second was john and from what i've heard rumor has it that his didnt come out right either and he ended up selling his too..... just giving you a heads up on my experience after ~ 10 years of being on this board, the choice is yours.

let's reiterate again: can you tell us exactly what the shop did to the car? guy can be good at swapping parts, but electrical stuff needs more troubleshooting.

not the shop my friend its just at the shop because they have the equipment for test electrical and so forth otherwise i would have it at my friends house in his garage. but i can't say what he did cuz im not sure as far as the electrical part is. but he is very knowledgeable about electrical wiring and i agree electrical stuff needs more troubleshooting its more complex and so forth

My friend has a shop in the SFV that does JDM engine swaps and general repairs, he could diagnose your problem and he is very cheap $$$$ labor wise. I'm sure he could figure out your problem, plus he has plenty of storage space. If you're interested let me know.

If you go this route, as long as you rent the tow dolly and pay for gas I'll tow it for you.

Dam .. I just read this thread!! This sucks.. ( i see what you mean now ) Hopefully you dont have to part out!!

There was this thread in the west coast section that was labeled "auto to 5-spd swap" or something like that .. When i had my "auto" 4th gen i went in there and found a few people talking about a guy who was doing swaps for 500$ or something like that and from what i heard the guy was real good!!

I actually considered driving down from the bayarea to have the swap done as i couldn't find someone local.. I ended up selling that 4th gen and just buying a 5-spd 4th gen but i believe he did engine swaps too!

His name is "andy" and he is "speedymax99's" homie i think! Speedy is the one who sells the subframe collars for our cars here at the org..

So maybe give him a holla!

anyway... good luck man!

Ok just so you know AAA only tows 7 miles before allowing the tow company charge you a per mile rate. That is unless you have the RV insurance then it's 100 miles. Depending on how much you have left on your AAA subscription it might be pretty cheap to get the upgrade since they pro rate it.

BTW in all of this I haven't seen any codes mentioned. That might help out in getting this diagnosed.

yea i have the premier so im good for 100 miles.

Doughboy had pulled some codes i believe it was 4 like 2 days before everything went down hill BUT the only one i remember was Fuel Pump Module or something like that and when i researched about it i found out it had nothing to do with the car since it was a 98 and a auto to 5 spd swap. but i could be wrong

There's always hope, if it ran before when he picked it up, but then took a chit, something related to fuel, air or spark is making it cut out it can be traced and fixed. It just takes some time and hopefully not too much $.

Personally, I think the motor is done and is the cause of your problems. But I could be totally wrong.

If it was my car, I would not be spending so much time and energy trying to fix/troubleshoot a motor that was known to be bad to begin with. I honestly think you're barking up the wrong tree. Park it until you're ready for the 3.5 swap.

How about giving us a lookover once more as detailed as possible man? Is your car still in La Habra? Pandamax and 95maxilove are nearby and I could come by and we can most likely help ya diagnose what's going on with yo clunker! I mean, we're not experts, but panda knows a thing or two about motors, and I'm "decent" in diagnosing problems

But try starting over once more, just covering all your basis, making sure cables are connected right, and all that good ish. Though, I'm pretty sure you've got it down, knowing that it's giving ya a headache trying to figure out what the !@#$ the problem could be...

Just don't hesitate to ask any local orgers for help man. Hit me up your number in a pm if you want us to come and help ya out.

Don't give up! We're MAXIMAS!

well a lil update i just got off the phone with the shop and well the guy said it wouldnt crank, he said it had no gas so they put gas in it and it cranked up. the code it seems to be throwing is a air meter or fuel meter or something like that damn i forgot that quick hmm well anyways since than they have been driving it daily and it runs good from what he tells me so he's going to clear the codes and clean/clear the meter or filter or whatever it was and im suppose to go pick it up tomorrow morning and give it a test drive wish me luck
