contact jelly question

simple, i want to use this cause the lights look weak in the rear taillights and was told that it would help contacts and make lights look brighter? any truth to this?

Are you talking about dielectric grease?

If so, it alone will do nothing. You need to remove the corrosion on the contacts first, using something like a fine scotch-brite pad. Then you can apply the grease to the contacting surfaces and mate the connector. The friction between the metals pieces should push the grease out of the way and make good contact, while keeping moisture away from the connection.

On a '95, there is one swtich for both the brake lights and the ASCD system. It is mounted on the side of the pedal bracket that faces the driver. If you look under there you can't miss it.

Do you want to change the brake light switch because of the brake lights looking weak? Or is for some other reason?

The 2 most likely causes of dim brake lights is corrosion in the lamp sockets and poorly grounded tail light assemblies.

Thats strange. The bulb should pull whatever amperage it needs to illuminate brightly. If it needed to pull more current it would blow the fuse. Its prolly jus the bulb u bought isnt a bright color.

same as what blew, trust me i know it isnt as bright now its obvious.but, it was always a little brighter on left and i thought the bulb was just burning out. might be the light itself, might swap some new tails in there anyway. found some i really like at a meet last month.

I don't think it's the switch either. As Dennis said, probably the bulb socket or a body ground.

Since you have one side brighter than the other, it definitely is not the switch as one switch supplys power to both sides. I lean towards the new light bulb not being as bright. Easy test is to swap the left and right light bulbs and see what you get.

And see if the two bulbs are the same number. Maybe the left lamp isn't the recommended one?

go away thread jacker!!! i've noticed a slight difference for awhile now ( 2 years ) but never thought it was an issue. when i replaced the bulbs on the right rear they werent as bright as the original. i will try swapping and see whats happens as well as cleaning out the sockets if needed.

buy some 2357 bulbs they pull more current and look noticeably brighter, just make sure you get the long life "LL" style.
