so the 99 se doesnt have a speed limiter?

was doing some google searches because i was curious as to how fast my max could go before being limited. this was a link-

http://forums.maxima.org/general-max...9-5-speed.html

post #4 says it doesnt have a limiter. but i know the 4th gen how-to has the directions on bypassing the limiter. so which 4th gens have the speed limiter?

i have had my 99 se to 125 (5spd) and had my 95 se (auto) to around the same. thats why im confused on which ones have the limiter.

I believe the 5 speeds aren't governed. The Autos were.

okay. the thing im surprised most about my auto is after i sold it, i guess it had very very little tranny fluid in it. so im sure if it had more, it would have reached the limit anyways.

Our Honda is governed by it's slowness, I really don't think it has a governor, I have a helluva time getting to 115, let alone much above that. It's not like the other cars in the house where it's like, meh I feel like doin 115, in the Accord, it's a major event that requires planning.

Only some GXE's were electronically governed. Rest were ungoverned, but rubbish at that speed.

If I remember correctly, The SE and the GLE's weren't governed but the GXE'S are governed. The SE'S auto or MT are not governed.

Wind resistance? At 6000 rpm in 4th your car is making a little less power then lower RPM in 5th probably.

I've owned four 5MT SE's, '89, '90, '97, and a '98, none of which were governed. Odd thing was I did 145 in the 90 and only got 137 in the 97.

it was bone stock
and technically its a 98 it was manufactured 12/98

My 95 GXE is governed at 115MPH. I haven't tried the 95 GLE yet to see if it is also.

In the GXE or GLE it all depended on what speed rating was on the tires the factory put on. This also depended on where the car was intended for sale. Down south, all season or M&S tires aren't needed. Up north the tires were selected for winter driving as well and had reduced speed ratings. The SE's all got higher speed rated rubber. This is actually the case in all vehicles on the road. If the factory put's an "S" rated tire on the vehicle, it's going to be governed to ~112mph "H" is going to be ~130mph and "V" is 149.

I have a 99 se-l and on i595 back here in FL i got it to a little over 127 before I let off the gas. Ironically at that point I too was questioning whether or not there was a limiter on the car...but I got into traffic and never got to 130. Time to do some testing for science this weekend. I'll try to make a video if I remember
