Two Coils not Firing and wires with copper showing.

So had a 95 maxima for a long time i loved it well i paid 1900 today for a 99 with 220k miles fully loaded and its running on 4 cyls. in the front bank two of the coils are not firing and i put new ones and same thing then i noticed someones done put wires back together and eltrical tapped the wires to the front banks coils.

pulled all the tape off and their 2 wires with copper showing and 6 wires tapped back to orginal wire.

no wires are touching what could cause those two coils not to be getting power?

i cleaned both cam sensor and crank sensor had small metal on them no luck.

Thanks.

While a photo of this mess might be helpful, I doubt it.

When it comes to a cut wire harness, anything from not having the correct two pieces of wire spliced together to bad connections could be the problem. All fuel injectors and ignition coils have a red wire going to them that supplies 12 volts. All ignition coils have a black wire going to it that is ground. All the other wires are different, each one unique to make a specific coil or injector fire. You will have to go over every splice and make sure that there are no bad splices and that every splice has the correct 2 pieces spliced together.

Get your FSM out and start checking connections. I strongly recommend that you solder the wires. They are exposed to water and other harsh conditions and will corrode after a while, which will prevent the flow of electricity. .

And use shrink tubing as well. You most likely have a bad connection on each dead cylinder. Keep in mind that splicing the wire might have been the PO's attempt at fixing the same problem. I would use a DVOM and back probe the ECU for the coils.

Go to the wrecking yard and get an under hood harness.

well stop tryin to figure it out lol. i found a fix today. I got a used auto parts ECU from a 99 Maxxi Put it in my car it fired up and just died but when it started it ran on all 6 cyls for bout 10 secs then never started again put old computer back in took to my mechanic friend he tried it again it wouldnt start he called his buddy came in with some big computer OBD2 scanner thingy and took 2 minutes to program the new ECU i got from used auto parts and it fired right up and runs good.

So

$95 to reprogram computer.
$100 for computer.
$50 for mechanic friend to install ECU cause it was givin me hell.

I got a CEL light on now for a code for vaccum line but runs great.

that code is P1165 havent figured it out yet though. Im happy with it now if anyone knows what this code in throw me some input.

Thanks guys. and the wires were tore apart from a previous mechanic testing the wires.

Glad to hear that you are running on 6 cylinders now.

There is absolutely no reason to do that to a wire harness - at least for testing purposes. The guy that did that is NOT a mechanic, he's an uneducated cave man. Don't ever let him touch your car.

P1165 is a problem with the swirl valve, which is on cars with California pollution controls. See page EC-410 in the FSM.
