Test carrier bearing ?

Test carrier bearing ?

So i was convinced my carrier bearings were bad however I did one more test yesterday. I jacked up one side of the car put it in first let the clutch out and let the driver side tire spin...no noise. Did the same with the passenger side and the grinding rumble noise was only on passenger side. I'm now thinking wheel bearing ? If it was the carrier bearings wouldn't it make the Noise on both sides ?

The carrier bearing is on the passenger side.... and no it would not make noise on both side because its attached to the passenger side axle only. but if you hear your noise from the passenger side and not the driver side then at least you know what side your problems on. but it doesn't mean it's your carrier bearing, it could be wheel bearings so investigate carefully

By carrier bearings are you referring to differential bearings? In a fwd transaxle we call them differential bearings.

I was asking for clarification because I don't often hear the term "carrier bearing" in the context of Maximas.
In rear wheel drive pickups for example, carrier bearings are located inside the axle housing and pressed onto the diff carrier, and a carrier bearing is in the center of a two piece driveline.

I was just asking Maxima-4DSC what he was calling a carrier bearing.

The passenger side axle goes through a bearing that hands off the sub-frame.
It's often refereed to as a carrier bearing as it's carrying the load of the extended length of the axle.

Again, it is called "support bearing" and not "carrier bearing."

asand1 is correct, "carrier bearing" is the support in the middle of the long driveshaft found on rear wheel drive pickups and SUVs. My hardbody had a carrier bearing until I replaced it with a one-piece driveshaft.

all semantics aside, Your issue is on the passenger side. It will be your support bearing, or wheel bearing.
