I just threw my 5K mile Iridiums away and replaced them with the cheap NGK coppers and the engine has never run better.

YMMV

As long as they are NGK's it should run fine.

The ONLY advantage of iridium and platinum is longer life. The only plug that is gonna FEEL better is the copper. Copper is more conductive.

NGK V Power @ $3 each!!!!!!!!!!! They're made out of copper, the most conductive of all and offer the best spark hands down. Only thing is that they must be swapped every ~ 25k. Only advantages of going with irridium/platinum is long life (up to 100k). If you plan to keep the car for that long more and too lazy to do a 30 minute plug swap every other year then go for them, if not then you're wasting money paying $80+ for those !

If copper is the best conductor, and ngk coppers deductively the best, then why does ngk- the manufacturer of these plugs specifically state that iridium spark plugs offer the following:

"Iridium IX® offers extreme ignitability"
"Outstanding acceleration, high fuel efficiency and durability"
"Ultimate design, technology and performance."

What really makes the iridium argument based on these ngk claims is "extreme ignitability", it stands to reason that this extreme ignitability can only come from a superior spark, and superior than copper since this claim is attributed to iridium.

Probably just a marketing tool. They are more expensive than coppers, so of course it would be better for them if you bought the iridium. Iridiums simply has a much longer life than coppers. That's it.

your best bet will be to search in the 5th gen section...

The only thing I can do is give you the FSM.

lower your font size. what does ignitability and acceleration and design have to do with conductivity? iridium is a far more expensive element than copper. some of these spark plugs are laser cut and provide a super fine tip where as coppers are not laser cut.

ngk claims they are pregapped but in my experience the 24+ plugs i've used have all been out of spec slightly. i always double check the gap before dropping them in.

i think i am going to make the switch to copper. i have single plats in now, i DID see improvement from the old plugs, same with my brothers i30 (his are double plat) but in both cases it was time for them to be changed they were out of gap, im sure that alone is what we felt.

i have not ever changed them while in good standing just to test the "feel" of different plugs.

i have two competing thoughts on this:

1. copper should be the best as is it the best conductor out of what plug material is offered.

2. NGK can design the coppers (on purpose based on what spec the auto manufacturer wants) to have the same resistance as any other of their plugs.

after reading this thread i got to thinkin

when i bought my car the first thing i did was change the oil the second was.. i went and bought the "best" most expensive plugs money could buy thinking "only the best for my baby" i just walked in the door 2 minutes ago after switching to coppers i took it on a road test and found this;

the idle and acceleration is really smooth i had to turn my radio all the way down to hear my exhaust

it also seems a bit less peppy but wide open is exactly the same

i would recommend the coppers if you want to pull in your driveway or parking lot look at your tach twice and think to your self "is this thing still running?"

there is no real "OH MY GOD WHAT A DIFFERENCE" in performance though

Sure, at 50K vs. a copper plug. It's marketing.
