muffler/exhaust

So I just replace everything cat back but I want to upgrade my maxima, I was wondering what mufflers are good and add a little bit of HP. I also want to put in better headers and also will headers affect the sound? thanks guys

mufflers dont add any HP and when it comes to headers stay with the stock ones if u want to upgrade ur 4th gen the best upgrade is a Y-PIPE whice is what gives u a extra 5-10 hp thats what i did to my 97 maxima if i were you i just get a OME muffler

getting an aftermarket exhaust will free up some hp due to less back pressure. and look for obx headers, long equal length headers will give you more top end power. the OEM design is horrible for exhaust flow

Yeah just get the OBX headers off of eBay. I've read that the 95-99 version doesn't line up without modification. The 00-03 version doesn't have an EGR port, though you can have an egr port welded on if you'd like depending on emissions in your location. If neither of those sound appealing then get ready to drop some $$$ on Cattmans.

first off man...SEARCH. There are soooo many exhaust/muffler threads. U wd get way more info from searching than what ppl are going to post in this thread.

That being sd....When looking for exhaust it all depends on what u looking for: noise, performance, stock replacement?

If u going with a catback from ebay, its going to come with a free flowing muffler. Jus make sure it has a resonator too.

If u going to a shop and replacing B pipe...make sure u get a resonator or u will hate ur life. In terms of mufflers, research Dynomax, Flowmaster, and Magnaflow. They are all pretty much free flowing. But each brand and model will have different sound characteristics.

I used to have a dynomax super turbo street version. Very free flowing but NO sound at all.

I now have a fireball straight thru racing muffler. added Good bass, free flowing, stock quiet at idle. Got it from ebay 20 bucks.

Do some research then ask for opinions on what u find/like. Chances are ppl have already tried the setup and can provide insight.

Headers sound really clean on a 4th gen. You should get the 3'' Cattman if you have the money for an exhaust

Its on your budget to what are you looking to spend Headers OBX like 400 shipped to you, with some modifications not sure what that runs...Cattmans like 800 something depend where you live but no modification...and a Great resell value I would say....needs like 3 more people....if your interested in those not sure how many for exhaust...and ebay for the OBX headers....

All you need to do is relocate the rear o2 bung so the sensor doesnt hit the steering rack. Install becomes more straight forward if you drop xmember and remove power steering pump. Youll need to grind down the motor mount cover. Some ppl grind the xmember down but I didnt.
