Fast Idle CAM not functioning

On cold starts I have to hold the IGN on Start for about 5 seconds to get it started. With a warm engine it starts quick and easy.

The thermovalve in the CAM is no longer sliding the plunger back in. On a cold engine the CAM marks line up to that on a warm engine, and the TB plate is closed to the stop screw.

The TB coolant hoses are already feeding the CAM. If they weren't then I'd have a constant 'high idle' problem.

Is the thermovalve no longer functioning? Should I remove the TB and inspect the CAM?

If the thermovalve is no longer functioning, you'll need to replace the TB as it's not a separate component. Look in the classified section here for a replacement.

I'll take it apart today and see if I reassembled it wrong. If I cannot fix it then I'll replace it with the thermovalve I have on an extra TB. The thermovalve in that CAM let the plunger slide in. The cold engine marks are in alignment on that CAM.

It is available! I bought one last year. Not cheap, I think through Courtesy Nissan. I will check and update later.

If you cant find someone on here with a used one that works or at a salvage yard, here is the new one:

16391U Element Kit-Thermo-Maxima (A32B) 1995-1999
Model: 16391-A32B001 $ 120.71 (january of 09). Like I said, not cheap!

I traded several parts between the TB on my max and the extra TB I got at the salvage yard last year. After warming it up I adjusted the TP switch with the feeler guage. The warm engine markings on this CAM were lined up.

When it's cooled down tomorrow I'll see if I now get a quick cold start with that thermovalve allowing the plunger to slide back in.
