Looking at buying this from eBay, wanted to see if its the same one other people with OBX's have brought and how they rate them?

I asked him if it came with all the nuts and bolts needed, he said only what was pictured but the ebay notes say "Everything necessary is included for install" other STS sellers show washers and the like included.

Who'd you buy yours from? How do you rate it?

Thinking of a TWM otherwise but there a lot more-another brand perhaps?

 

The one i got 3 years ago on ebay broke within a week. The bolt that connects it to the shift rod was too short also. Ended up getting lucky and found a Pacesetter locally.

 

Ive got pacesetter and I couldnt be happier. Everyone whos driven my whip loves its shift feel.

2 of my buddies had them, one on a 4th the other on 5th gen. The one on the 5th snapped at the base on 5th gear on I-95, the other on broke 2 days after install. Imo, I'd get a TWM, B&M or a stillen, which I myself will get soon.

 

Theyre flush as can be . Gonna move onto new wheels. Need to run a flush/stretch setup. And you said youd sell the skirts soon almost .5 a year ago . I think were beyond soon

 

Pacesetter! Theyre adjustable.

 

Sucks that you can't buy them new anymore though nor stillen I think so might have to be twm haven't seen reviews yet though

I for one favor modifying the stock shifter. I shorted the top portion by 1.5 inches, and added 0.5 inches to the length of the bottom section. Took a week to get used to it, but now I love it.

 

I haven't heard anything bad about the Ralco RZ short shifter. I have one, but haven't installed it yet. It looks exactly like the B&M short shifter.

 

Im not a fan of the B&M. It feels SUPER notchy.

 

TWM Review... Frigin AWESOMENESS! much much lower (2.5") not to notchy, with the TWM weighted shift *** it feels amazing and looks amazing. every once ina while, it doesnt wanna slide smoothly into reverse when i used to pull out the driveway. i just threw it in 1st 2nd 3rd then reverse and it worked every time. it does however sit a little farther forward than i like. excellent build quality and i have most definitely put it to work and no breaks. about 6+ months on it now and no complaints!

Yeah, Nels...I can vouch, its a good shifter. It is notchier than my Pacesetter. I still cant justify paying what you paid for it. But then again I dont have that JIC money.

 

Not at all, the only thing about the b&m is you have to tighten the bottom bolt just right. If its too tight, its notchy and tight to go up and down in and out of gear. If its too loose then it has side to side play when its in gear. I believe mine is a little loose (gotta tighten it up). I love mine. If I wastnt able to get the b&M, I would try for a pacesetter, if not Id mod the stock shifter.

I thought those were worst then OBX? Any1 know were to a pacesetter shifter? I looked on there site but didnt see any thing?

 

Pacesetter STS's have been discontinued and are no longer made. You might get lucky and find someone selling theirs on here. Check your local Craigslist too. Thats how I found mine.

I've used a knock-off ebay one for about 5 years with no problems. Looks exactly like this, came with everything necessary and a shift ****.

Cut some off the top, about an inch and a half or so. Cut the thread back onto the tip. Then (know someone did this on a stock shifter) take it out of its swivel cup, put it in the oven till the little ball heats up and slide it up toward the bend of the shifter (you only need to go a little). If you dont wanna do all that you can just cut some off the top.

 

Idk, I bought mine from Brian Catts, and I asked him if these were good, and he said that he had sold a number of them and hadn't heard anything bad from the customers that bought them.

 

Im thinking of giving the raclo one a try, I have the 25$ ebay shifter and its just nothy .

My try to re-adjust/loosen the bolt underneath but I dont think it will do much.

 

I used a hacksaw and a welder. I cut the threads off the top, then cut 1.5 inches of the shifter off, then welded the threads back on. Then I cut off the part that bolts to the linkage and used 0.5 inches from the part of the shifter removed previously to elongate the bottom section. I draped a wet towel over the plastic ball to keep it cool while welding. I welded the bottom back together slowly, taking many breaks to let everything cool down. I sanded it smooth and threw a coat of paint on it.

In removing the top section, I removed the pressed part that hold the rubber piece up that secured the top of the shift boot. I had to drill a hole through the shifter to use a cotter pin to suspend the rubber piece.

 

Mine is not notchy. I really like my B&M
Agreed. IIRC, it's spelled out in the instructions too..but I know buying used there's next to no chance in getting instructions.

Being the parts hoarder that I am, I have a BNIB adjustable PaceSetter. Never installed it cuz I like the B&M.. Will I sell it? Nah...

I may give it a try but mostly likely may just get a B&M shifter, after I find a vlsd tranny to go with my 3.5 swap (coming soon)

 

good luck finding a B&M, i literally emailed and called over 20 stores... they all had it on their web page and none had it in stock. a few websites even pulled it after i contacted them about it. Even tried getting ahold of B&M in the off chance they still had one sitting around, no such luck. if you find one itll be used or from someone like wizards stash/stock pile of parts lol. GL though, i didnt have any. But the TWM is very nice too, and in stock, and still currently produced!
