Bought an engine.. Need some advice.

Ok, so I haven't been on the forum in a while because my 95 Max has been running good.

About a week ago, I threw a rod and did some major damage. So I found a 97 engine for $100 close to where I live. Its in decent condition so I figured what the hell. I'm 19 years old and have a garage with all the necessary tools. I'm no mechanic, I realize this. I love my car and want to see it on the road again.

So my question is, is there any mods that I can do before I put the engine in my car. I already have a lot done.

I was thinking supercharger or a new intake manifold. I have videos on YouTube of my car if you guys are really bored. My username is DrumV1

--MODS--
ECU swap
Headers
Y-pipe
CAI
New springs/shocks
Short shifter etc..

Thanks for the help

Jake

Iv'e read about that. How much more power does it add? looks like 15hp from what Iv'e read. How much can I get one for, and is it worth it?

Best mod: VQ35DE. Yeah as j2fresh said get a DEK intake manifold from a 2000/01 motor.

Its worth it. Instead of power band topping out early it would continue to pull.

a VQ for $100 is too good to be true. and instead of spending $300 on a 00VI i would rather buy a nice DEK for $500-$600 and swap it over. The rest of your plans doesnt add up. a supercharger costs $200-$4000 and not typically the type of mod you decide to slap on just because your motor is out the car. headers is more like it.

Yea, bought it off a 76 yr old man. And 2 16" alloy wheels for $50. I have a blazer as my daily driver for now so there really isn't a rush to get my car running. DEK? Sorry my Maxima lingo is a little rusty.

Hes still a lil new at this. As he said he realizes hes no mechanic. Only real way to learn is for one to experience on their own.

maximo018, Your engine is clean as **** BTW. Since I already have headers, I'll just look for a 00v1.

Thanks man. As of right now shes a lil dirty but I'll spruce her up in a few days to make her look as good as the pic. Good idea going with the DEK. I'd replace the thermostat and probably the water pump just to be on the safe side.

once you get it all up and running again, id seafoam the motor to get all of the crusted up carbon so you can get back some lost horsepower

Supercharger is not for a beginner mechanic, I would start of with headers, nice exhaust, take care of all the maintenance things on the motor before you drop it in, i.e. rear and front main seal, water pump, valve covers, spark plugs, possibly new timing tensioner, etc.

BTW, what's the mileage on the "new" motor?

It would be a real PITA to put the motor in with the SCer already installed.

I would install the engine first to make sure everything works, then worry about installing an 00vi. I'd hate to install both at the same time and have to track down issues from both the 00vi and an engine replacement. Less variables means easier trouble shooting.

That's good advice, from what I've read in here. Make sure the engine runs strong and you get it all hooked up correct. Then consider more mods.

I'd probably clean it up and do the timing chain before thinking about any mods.
After that maybe aftermarket headers.

check the mod list people he already has headers/ y-pipe/ catback/ flowmaster/ technosquare ecu/ short shifter/ CAI/ Tein 2" drop/ Dropzone struts

but +1 on making sure engine is properly installed and up & running before adding 00vi if OP chooses to
