After installing the struts, lower control arm, outer tie rods, and sway bar endlinks, I'm now one step closer to restoring the car

The tech at the alignment place was so surprised, he said "wow someone completely replaced the whole front end of this car"

Just three things left that I really wanted to take care of.

1. Replace the alternator because the current alternator have a bad bearing. I already ordered the replacement alternator that put out 160amps.

2. Replace the tires. Currently the car have 4 different tires from 4 different manufacturer . It's making a lot of road noise because of this.

3. I heard this clicking/popping noise whenever I turn the steering wheel left or right, couldn't pinpoint it to any place specific. It's not loud but you can definitely tell it's there.

Could it be because I didn't replace the rubber (or paper?) gasket that sit on top of the strut mount when I replaced the struts?

They're in perfect condition when I was doing the suspension work.

 

I have to agree with 4DSC...sounds like CV joints... Mine do the same thing.

 

The boots can be in perfect condition but the joints can still go bad.

 

While your rolling or stationary?
If its rolling with the steering wheel held in one position its the CVs.

If its stationary while turning the steering wheel, it could be the strut mounts or ball joints.

Sounds like strut mount bearings. First of all they are made of plastic, and when mine went, they were shredded to pieces.
Jack up the front end and watch the spring as you or someone else turns the steering wheel. If the strut mount bearings are the problem, then you will see the spring move with the popping noise.

 

Well the sound went away amazingly. I guess the suspension was just setting in.
