Yes it has to be programed. You can find a locksmith to do it I'm sure. To get the key cut and programed at Nissan will run around 90 bucks (going by what my dealer charges so yours might be cheaper or more expensive).

lol like I said it may be more or less. Plus I was just pricing labor, not the cost of the key itself. Yes they will need your car to program it.

Call one of those on-site locksmiths. Also, you can get a new uncut key for your car on ebay for like $15.

Used to be a locksmith. You got a couple choices. All choices I offer will be going off prices when I worked 2 years ago.

First off you can see IF the dealer still has the old key code. Not likely but they might. They will want proof of ownership. If they give you BS about it costing money tell them to STFU and give you the code, your the owner. Next take that key code and either call a locksmith out and have it cut off code and programmed. That would be $90-120.

Second choice is call a locksmith out and have them make one from scratch. They will most likely pull a door panel off and remove the lock to make it from that. Cost with programming would be $250. Unfortunately nissans dont have key codes stamped on any of the locks like honda and toyota do.

Last choice is to just tow it to the dealer. Not sure of the cost. If you have AAA or a friend/family member with it you can use that to call out a locksmith and help offset the cost of the bill. The amount they will help cover is based on the level of the AAA membership, either $60, 100, or 150. Of course local locksmith prices will vary wildly. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Consult can program the keys, as will a TKO and other tools. Any decent locksmith will have the computer needed to program the key.

Afaik you program the car to recognize the key. But yeah a locksmith can do it at your place. Buy the blank off eBay b4 you call the locksmith.
