temp guage help

I am looking at buying a 95 SE, and I took it for a test drive, and when I give throttle the temp guage shakes around the mid zone of hot and cold rapidly. Any ideas on this?
Thanks

Probably installed the coolant temp sensor (CTS) wrong. I could be wrong, but when you install the CTS there is a peep hole that has to be put at 12'oclock, and if its not, the sensor will read the wrong value by not letting coolant through. It seems the coolant is just running through part the system and the sensor isn't opening up and letting it run through the rest of it

My vote goes to either sensor or its harness not being snug. FYI gauage cluster and ECM use different sensors to monitor coolant temp.

I'm posting from my phone so I can't link. I had this problem and fixed it for free. The spade terminal on the sender is loose on the left side of front head. Replace sender or solder the loose connection. Its a peened over stud that gets loose.
