Is the clutch pedal on a 5 speed 98 Max stiffer than normal ( ie other cars)?

I believe it is. No way to measure the pressure needed to fully engage it, but when I broke my ankle last year, I almost had to sell the car. It sad idle for 8 months. When i tried to drive it after they took the pins out of my ankle, it hurt so much, I used a 2x4 and my left arm to depress it.
I'm only now starting to use it daily

Is this my imagination? I've owned many manuals, from old SAAB's to old Mercedes, never saw such a stiff clutch

it is most likely that something is going to brake on the hydraulic system. it happened with mine a couple of months ago, the petal bacame super hard to press and one morning one of the connections busted... i ran a new one piece line from the master to the slave cylinder refilled, bled the system and now the clutch feels nice and has a solid fell to it...
