I used a sawsall to remove the tips on my 5th gen, have you tried jamming a flathead in the rear of the tip and hammering it out?

No. Mine just pulled right off. I did this two days ago when I replaced my muffler. The stock tip is a bit loose on a walker soundfx muffler in case you went with one. I had to wrap the pipe in aluminum foil to make it slip on tighter.
